Assist In double battles?

2 minute read

I know Assist cannot copy all moves, Focus Punch being one.To keep things simple, if in a double battle I have only 3 Pokemon, one with only assist (on field) and the other on field with Focus Punch and Fake Out, and the other Pokemon has Dark Void. When I use Assist, will it have a chance of copying a move on my other Pokemon out on field? None of the pages I have searched give an answer to whether allies moves get copied in double battles.

In a Double Battle, user randomly attacks with a partner’s move.-This site’s page on assist

Assist randomly selects one of the moves known by the user’s party allies (including fainted Pokémon) and executes it. A move called up by Assist counts as the last move used. A Pokémon will be able to use a move that is disabled in its own moveset if called via Assist. If there are no moves that can be called in the party, the move will fail.-Bulbapedia’s page on assist

Basically assist will copy the move of one of your other Pokémon. If no Pokémon has a copiable move, the move will fail.

This move selects and uses a random move known by a Pokémon within your party. However, it cannot use the moves; Assist, Chatter, Circle Throw, Copycat, Counter, Covet, Destiny Bond, Detect, Dragon Tail, Endure, Feint, Focus Punch, Follow Me, Helping Hand, Me First, Metronome, Mimic, Mirror Coat, Mirror Move, Protect, Quick Guard, Sketch, Sleep Talk, Snatch, Struggle, Switcheroo, Thief, Trick, or Wide Guard

Above, it said that Assist cannot use the moves Assist, Chatter, Circle Throw, Copycat, Counter, Covet, Destiny Bond, Detect, Dragon Tail, Endure, Feint, Focus Punch, Follow Me, Helping Hand, Me First, Metronome, Mimic, Mirror Coat, Mirror Move, Protect, Quick Guard, Sketch, Sleep Talk, Snatch, Struggle, Switcheroo, Thief, Trick, or Wide Guard.Yes, your Pokemon will be able to copy Dark Void or Fake out and it won’t try to copy Focus Punch.Hope I helped!Source
