Azumaril vs. Laspras?

2 minute read

Please do not down vote or hide my question. My azumaril has sap sipper meaning if it is hit by a grass type move it will receive no damage and it’s attack will be raised.Should I get rid of azumaril for laspras or keep azumaril. Please give both sides of the argument.

Woah, woah! They are both BOSS in the rain!

Heavy hitter Azumaril.

Having the ability huge power, his/her measily 50 base attack gets bumped up to 100! In other words, all moves do 50% more damage. Slap on a choice band, and you have yourself a powerhouse. This blue blob can be a very nice revenge killer as well because it gets aqua jet. Azumaril is very slow so that is suggested because it will usually go first unless facing a higher priority move.Azumaril (M) @ Choice BandEVs: 252 Hp 248 Atk 4 DefAdamant natureTrait: Huge Power~ Aqua Jet~ Waterfall~ Superpower~ Ice Punch

Rain-wonder Lapras

Lapras to water types is like what eminem is to black people. There is always a better one out there. But, there is a legit way to purely sweep the opponent’s team.1) Have rain out in the field.2) Lapras has the hydration ability from the Dream World3) Spam curse and rest until you’ve had enough.

Rain godess (Lapras) (F) @ Leftovers/Damp RockEVs: 252 Hp / 252 SDef / 4 AtkAdamant Nature/Careful NatureTrait: Hydration~ Curse~ Rest~ Waterfall/Rain Dance~ Ice Shard

Note that a Pokemon with drizzle is highly suggested if you use lapras.

Maybe you can try a perish trapper set.

Lapras @ Focus SashEVs: 252 HP 252 SDef / 4 DefCalm natureTrait: Water absorb/Hydration~ Whirlpool~ Perish Song~ Ice Beam~ Rest

There is really no argument between the two.Lapras has much better stats, with a 535 total while Azumarill has 410. Lapras has a better movepool and typing. It’s abilities are better in competitive, Lapras has a better position in the metagame.

Lapras has lain in the depths of NU since DPP, and it’s a mystery why. Being one of the few specially defensive Water-types in the tier,Lapras has a niche in countering Shell Smash Gorebyss with ease.Lapras’s secondary Ice typing is somewhat of a letdown, but don’t let this put you off;STAB Ice Beam coming from a base 85 Special Attack is nothing short of scary.Unfortunately, Lapras is cursed with a Stealth Rock weakness and no way to heal itself outside of Rest and Water Absorb, but thanks to its decent typing it has many opportunities to switch in. Lapras has a rather large movepool consisting of oddities such as Dragon Dance, Perish Song, and even Curse.** If it wasn’t weak to Stealth Rock and its Speed was a bit higher, Lapras would be a top-tier threat, but for now it’ll stay with its NU friends.

For lapras, I like JCM’s set:

Lapras (F) @ Damp RockTrait: HydrationEVs: 252 Def / 216 SDef / 32 HP / 8 SpdCalm Nature (+SDef,-Atk)- Rain Dance- Rest- Whirlpool- Perish Song

For Azumarill:
