Can you get enough coins in Goldenrod for Sandshrew without playing Voltorb Flip?

i’m playing soulsilver again after several ill-fated incomplete attempts, and I want a sandslash on my team. however, I seem to have misread the dex page - turns out that sandshrew only appears in the wild in heartgold, and that I need to get 700 coins at the game corner for it in soulsilver. problem is, my copy of the game is broken [i got it off the internet and it’s prone to freezing up. I think it might be a bootleg of some sort], and trying to play at the game corner just softlocks the game. is it possible to rack up 700 coins without playing voltorb flip? I can’t seem to find a reliable source on how many coins you can pick up in the overworld.

Unfortunately, according to Serebii, you can’t get coins outside of playing Voltorb Flip.

In addition to this, the coin exchange has been removed so you can no longer purchase the coins in order to play the game.
