Does Game Freak accept fan projects?
We live in a world where Sega accept Sonic fangames, rom hacks, etc. But Nintendo actually take down Mario fangames but not rom hacks I guess and their main and greatest takedowns which they’re doing pretty recently are the Metroid fangames.
What about Pokemon? Does Game Freak care about Fan Games and rom hacks? Are they chill about it? I saw someone out there decompiled the entire source of BDSP and turned it into a remake of Platinum, and as well adding Megas, fixing animations, removing chibi models, etc. ILCA should’ve been surprised to see these drastic changes on their game.
This is not a question relating to a fan game or a rom hack though. If this question is unsatisfactory for this platform, feel free to close it.

In general modding and recreating Pokemon games is illegal and the Pokemon company (a conglomerate of Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures inc.) is notorious for sending DMCAs towards fanmade games.A quick Google search will yieldmanyresults of fanmade games being shut by Nintendo, even in cases where the games do not make profit and use a disclaimer to show they are not affiliated with the Pokemon company and acknowledge the copyrights, as even when doing those things the work does not qualify as fair use under the law. The most notable case that comes to mind is the fanmade gamePokemon Uranium.
But there’s a bit of a debate on whether or not they are getting excessive with this even if they technically have the right. In fact, I remember the Pokemon company sending a cease and desist to a fan who was throwing a Pokemon themed party. He wound up owing $5,400 USD.Here’s the article, and another one. They also sent a cease and desist to a lady who was making little Bulbasaur themed planters(here).
There are other examples of them sending out DMCAs but it kinda goes down a rabbit hole and if I talk about it here I might get modded.
But long story short, it probably isn’t a good idea to tempt them…
While I agree with major points other people made in their answers, I wonder how in the world Pokemon-themed addons for Minecraft still exist, takethis one? Is it because they’re not technically games, or because they’re mostly made by underaged and Nintendo doesn’t want to get involved in the scandal around kids? Or maybe coz it’s under another big corpo legal protection? Mystery to me.
