Good pairings with cores?

3 minute read

Yeah, I know a core question has already been asked, but what about pairings for cores? All cores have flaws, and are broken by some Pokemon (that means you, mixednape), so I’m looking for PAIRINGS for cores instead. Just name the name of the core, and then give the set of the pairing, and why it is a good pairing. Example: core: SkarBlissPairing:Slowbro @ LeftoversEVs: 252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 SpDNature: Bold- Psychic- Slack Off- Scald- Thunderwave

This is a good pairing with SkarBliss, because it counters MixedNape, which destroys SkarBliss quite easily.

anyway, feel free to answer multiple times, and any tier is welcome.

Well, answering your question is quite the challenge since it is very hard to resist ripping of the excellent cores that are listed on thispage

However I guess I shouldn’t be lazy and try to come up with cores that could actually work with a pairlingAnyways I will list some that I think are quite good

The one to pair with the original core, Salamence and Jirachi/Metagross should be Starmie.Starmie’s main purpose is to serve as a status aborber, something that Metagross/Jirachi and Salamence don’t take so well as they can’t afford being induced by sleep, paralysis, burn and or toxic(Salamence). Salamence and Jirachi/Metagross already serve as an excellent core, this is because of the following reasons:

This core has always been very loved, but it’s sole weakness was status moves. Starmie is the best Status absorber due to the fact that it has a great ability in Natural Cure. Not only does it help absorb their main weakness, it also helps them cleans physicall walls out of their way. Skarmory, Gliscor, Hippodown are no more once Starmie arrives on the field. However it should be wary of CrunchI am pretty sure that you would actually like to know the movesets that I would recommend running with this core, so I will add them:

Starmie @ Life OrbTrait: Natural CureEV’s: 4Def/ 252SpA/ 252SpdTimid Nature- Surf- Ice Beam- Thunderbolt- Rapid Spin/ Signal Beam/Psychic

Metagross @ Lum Berry/LeftoversTrait: Clear BodyEVs: 252HP / 220Atk / 36SpdAdamant Nature- Rock Polish- Meteor Mash- Earthquake- Ice Punch/Thunder Punch/ Zen Headbutt

or

Jirachi @ Choice ScarfTrait: Serene GraceEVs:252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 SpeJolly Nature- Iron Head- Ice Punch- U-turn- Healing Wish

and

Salamence@ Life OrbTrait: MoxieEVs: 64 Atk / 192 SpA / 252 SpeNaive Nature- Draco Meteor- Outrage- Fire Blast- Earthquake

Any set could really go but I would personally use this set to keep the roles a little in balanceI suggest a Rock Polish/Agilitysweep set for Metagross because although it is common, it remains deadly as it can survive a Thunder Wave/Will-O-Wisp due to Lum berry, and after that most likely kill a lot of Pokemon of because of the 2X increase in speed. Rapid Spin or full-out-attacker on Starmie. I suggest using rapid Spin, to prevent the Stealth Rocks and the Spikes from doing damage to it’s teammates and itself. Scarfrachi is pretty nice. With U-Turn you can now easily switch out to Salamence whiles doing damage since you know Salamence has it’s back covered. Mixed Sweeper for Salamence just so you will not be rendered completely useless when you are facing physicall walls such as Ferrothorn, Skarmory, Gliscor etc

If I can think or if I find more, I will add them but as for now, this is it :)
