Has Ash ever owned a legendary Pokemon in the anime?

As Fusion Elitist Jason said, Ash technically “owned” Nebby for a short amount of time, but never officially caught it.

In SM067, Ash encountered a Poipole who seemed strangely attached to Pikachu. After a small incident in which Pikachu went missing, Rowlet was poisoned, and Team Rocket appearing (and consequently disappearing), Poipole was confirmed to be an Ultra Beast. Ash was permitted to capture it, though he failed several times as Poipole thought the catching process was a game. After Ash helped it understand what was really happening, Poipole allowed itself to be captured, and was allowed to stay with the group until they could find its Ultra Wormhole and send it back.

However, Ash did catch a Poipole at one point in Ultra Adventures, apparently. This could possibly count, but he did release it. Also, Poipole is an Ultra Beast, and may not count as a Legendary Pokémon.

Other than that, Ash did not own any other legendaries. He did own a pseudo legendary, Goodra, in X/Y however.

Yes. Melmetal in s22 episode 112 ash caught a meltan that was found by rowlet. In episode 138, meltan evolved into a melmetal making ash have a powerful legendary.
