How do you mega evolve a Pokemon in Pokemon go? I have charizard and I don’t know how to turn it into mega charizard X.

Okay so, I know I already posted an answer for this, but surprise! Mega Evolution was released in September! so now I’ll re-answer with the more up-to-date information.

During the initial release of Mega Evolution, the raid tiers changed. Before it was tier 1 to 5, 5 being legendary, but now it’s 1, 3, 5 and Mega. To get Mega energy, which is necessary to Mega Evolve your Pokémon, you need to fight in Mega Raids. Mega Raids usually require about 5-6 people to win. Upon completion, you can catch the Pokémon you fought and you will receive some Mega Energy.

To Mega Evolve once you have enough energy for the specified Pokémon, you go to the Pokémon’s summary and press “Mega evolve”. The mega evolution lasts for about 4 hours, but I once had it last for 12 for my Beedrill. It will tell you how long the Evolution will last. After Mega Evolving your Pokémon for the first time, It costs less to Mega Evolve them in the future.

Currently, the Pokemon that can Mega Evolve are Blastoise, Charizard, Venisaur, Pidgeot, Beedrill, and Houndoom, and they intend on slowly but surely releasing more in the future.

Currently, Niantic is creating an article outlining the specifics onMegas in GO. It’s been announced, but not implemented yet.

We won’t go into much detail here, as we’re working on an article outlining this new feature and what we know about it currently, but at last we know that it’s real!

Pokemon in Pokemon Go cannot yet Mega Evolve.

While I don’t have a source, I do believe it’s likely going to be at least a year before they implement it. Currently, Niantic is still in the process of releasing the Gen 5 Pokemon, which they only started last November. Since Mega Evolutions are a Gen 6 feature, it will likely be released as they’re finishing up Gen 5, which may take another year or two based on how they’ve released generations in the past. On Leekduck’s instagram, it has been speculated by the community that it may become available for level 40-50 trainers when the level cap is released (still in development, but the level cap is comfirmed). However, so far that is just a rumour. Nothing is yet confirmed regarding Mega Evolution, other than it’s planned.
