How viable is attacking Whimsicott?
Whimsicott really caught my attention recently. In the past generation, I remember having been an avid user of Prankster SubSeed in OU and Ubers; Whimsicott worked wonder back then, despite her typing. But Generation 6 brought her new toys I didn’t see until right now.Whimsy Cotton Ball is now part of the Fairy-type, which gives her many advantages like STAB on Moonblast, more switch-in opportunities on Dragon-type choice locked Pokemon, newfound resistance to Dark- and Fighting-type attacks as well as neutrality against Bug-type attacks. To top it off, it has access to Infiltrator so screw Substitutes, although Prankster shouldn’t be unviable to Encore trap any Pokemon / Tailwind to support the team. However, all isn’t shiny for Whimsicott, for her new typing didn’t add much offensive synergy with Grass-/Fairy-types both walled by a simple Fire- or Poison-type Pokemon. Moreover, unlike Serperior for example, she has low special attack base of 77 which she can’t boost except with a Life Orb so the damage output remains meager. As an avaricious user of SubSeed on Whimsicott, I ask:Does Attacking Whimsicott work well?If the answer isyes, then do provide these information please:

To answer your question,no, Whmsicott does not make a goos attacker. As you said it hasn’t got the best typing or stats. The only thing it has going for it is Speed. And as for its movepool, well, please excuse me while I go laugh my head off.
…
Okay, done. Here’s the coverage that Whimsicott gets:
That’s it. That’sallof Whimsicott’s viable attacking moves. It doesn’t get any boosting moves, either. Also, you say that it has Infiltrator to bypass Substitute; well, most Substitute users are fairly bulky, and a base 77 Sp. Attack stat is doing pretty much moot to, well, everything. Whimsicott has one role and one role only: Prankster Tailwind/Encore support, with a bit of Leech Seed thrown in. Sorry to burst your bubble, but attacking Whimsicott is pretty much a no.
If you did want to use said attacking Whimsicott, I would suggest a hybrid of attacker and support.
Sir Puffington (Whimsicott)@ Life OrbAbility: Prankster/InfiltratorEVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 DefModest Nature- Moonblast- Giga Drain- Leech Seed- Protect/Tailwind
No, but it can make a good coverage/support comboif used correctly
Whimsicott @Focus SashAbility: PranksterEVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 DefTimid Nature- Moonblast- Energy Ball- Tailwind/Trick Room- U-Turn
Lead with whimsicott to set up Tailwind, then U-Turn out to a different Pokemon. If possible, use coverage on low sp. def Pokemon. Use Trick Room if you plan on using lower speed teammates than the ones I suggest.
For defensive synergy use Toxapex:
Toxapex @Black SludgeAbility: RegeneratorEVs: 252 HP / 156 Def / 100 SpDRelaxed Nature- Toxic Spikes- Baneful Bunker- Scald- Recover
Use scald as STAB and to burn, as well as set up Toxic Spikes, poison physical attackers, and stall with Recover and Black Sludge.
As for stealth rocks, toxic spikes should work well, but if you really want stealth rocks, then:
Gigalith @Weakness PolicyAbility: SturdyEVs: 244 HP / 252 Atk / 12 SpDBrave Nature- Stealth Rock- Rock Slide- Explosion- Heavy Slam/Superpower
or:
Ferrothorn @LeftoversAbility: Iron BarbsEVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpDRelaxed Nature- Spikes- Stealth Rock- Body Press/Power Whip- Gyro Ball
Ferrothorn is by far the better Pokemon, but it struggles with the same types as Whimsicott does, so it’s just up to your preference.
As for wallbreakers, these should go a long way:
Dracovish @Choice BandAbility: Strong JawEVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpeAdamant Nature- Fishous Rend- Psychic Fangs- Crunch- Ice Fang
and:
Kommo-O @Sitrus BerryAbility: Overcoat/Bulletproof/SoundproofEVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 SpeTimid Nature- Clanging Scales- Clangorous Soul- Aura Sphere- Flash Cannon/Flamethrower
Both share synergy with Whimsicott, Dracovish’s Fishous Rend gets boosted by attacking first, and Kommo-O’s mediocre 85 base speed also benefits greatly from Tailwind support.
For the last team slot, you can use whatever you want, but I recommend:
Pelipper @Damp RockAbility: DrizzleEVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 SpeModest Nature- Scald/Tailwind- Hurricane- Ice Beam- Hydro Pump
Can be used as a second Tailwind user, freeing up Whimsicott of a slot, as well as setting up rain, which can boost Dracovish’s power to obscene levels.
