Is it possible to get a starter Pokemon in an Ultra or Premier Ball without hacking?

1 minute read

I recently received a shiny Swampert in a Love Ball, and last time I checked, you can’t catch Mudkip in the wild with special Pokeballs. When you breed with Ditto, the offspring is always kept in a regular Pokeball. I am also a little finicky about what Pokeballs my competitive teams are in. Is it possible that I can chain breed special Pokeballs onto my starter Pokemon?

Starting in Generation VI, the Poké Ball of the female Pokémon will be passed down to its offspring. In Generation VII, if a male and female Pokémon of the same species are bred, the offspring will have an equal chance of inheriting either parent’s Poké Ball.

In Generation VII, when breeding a male or genderless Pokémon with Ditto, the Poké Ball of the male or genderless Pokémon will be passed down to its offspring.

These are the only times a pokeball will be passed down through breeding. So following these rules, you can’t ever get a starter in anything other than a regular pokeball. (Unless there is a way of catching them in the wild, or an event where they come with a different pokeball. But neither of these are true for Swampert).
