Is it worth putting EV's into speed for a Mega Tyranitar?

1 minute read

Just want to know, is it worth investing some EVs into speed for a mega Tyranitar? I feel they’d be better used for defence/special defence.

The reason Im asking is because Im wondering if I should use Crunch on him, or payback. On the one hand, if its not worth putting EVs in it, then I should probably run Payback, just because it’ll do more damage. If I should put EVs into speed, then I should probably run crunch because its so much safer.

So, is it worth it?

With maximum Speed investment and a Jolly nature for aChoiceScarf, [Tyranitar][1] is able to outspeed positive natured base 115s andbelow, putting it above a decent portion of the metagame. The rest ofthe EVs should be dumped into its Attack stat in order for it to hitas hard as possible.

Payback isn’t safe nor guarantee -plus you need to take a hit to strike back, which might result into unwanted hax or stronger than expected.

Maximum Attack and Speed investment with a Jolly nature are so that [Mega Tyranitar][2] can hit as hard as possible while being able to outspeed everything relevant. Tyranitarite allows Tyranitar to Mega Evolve, boosting its Attack, Defense, Special Defense, and Speed stats. Although an Adamant nature might seem tempting for the incredible boost in power it provides, Mega Tyranitar will miss out on outspeeding key Pokemon such as Adamant Bisharp before a boost.

Depending on the set, Tyranitar can easily use Speed EVs. Even though it has relatively low speed, it can patch it with a Scarf or go Mega with DD to become pretty speedy.[1]:http://www.smogon.com/dex/xy/pokemon/tyranitar[2]:http://www.smogon.com/dex/xy/pokemon/tyranitar
