If you want a Psychic type then Ralts/Gardevoir is the one to get. It comes very early in the game, so you can level it up as soon as possible. It has two very good abilities. Synchronize is good for getting Pokemon of the same nature while Trace is just an excellent ability. It learns Confusion at level 6, making it easier to level up than an Abra. Kirlia learns Psychic at level 26, which is a huge 90 base power STAB attack so early in the game. Gardevoir can also learn Thunderbolt, which is a nice coverage move. With base 125 Special Attack, solid defensive stats, and a decent base 80 speed, Gardevoir is a very powerful Pokemon early in the game.

It should be noted that Claydol has 5 more base Special Defense than Gardevoir, but Claydol sucks.

If you can be bothered finding one (they are very rare). Gardevoir is a very good in-game Psychic type, and you don’t need to trade to get onecoughAlakazamcough, so I would definitely go for it.

The main problem with it is its lack of coverage, as Psychic and Thunderbolt are really the only worthwhile attacks to give it. It can learn Shadow Ball as well, but its Attack stat is so low it won’t be doing much damage to anything. So for the third slot I suggest Calm Mind, as that boosts both its Sp. Att and its Sp. Def at the same time. The last slot you could have Light Screen or Reflect, or some other supporting move you think your team needs.
