Is this GeoXern set viable in AG?

2 minute read

NatDex AGHere’s the Set:Xerneas @ Power HerbAbility: Fairy AuraEVs: 168 HP / 252 SpA / 88 SpeModest Nature- Close Combat- Moonblast- Thunder- Geomancy

CC is For the annoying Chansey.

Here’s the calc:

0- Atk Xerneas Close Combat vs. 4 HP / 252 Def Eviolite Chansey: 282-334 (43.9 - 52%) –14.1% chance to 2HKO

0- Atk Xerneas Close Combat vs. 4 HP / 252 Def Eviolite Chansey: 282-334 (43.9 - 52%) –guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

I Weighed CC and Psyshock and concluded that CC is better because after setting up Geomancy and Chansey is in, You will find yourself again walled by Chansey after a few turns. Here’s the Calc:

+2 252+ SpA Xerneas Psyshock vs. 4 HP / 252 Def Eviolite Chansey: 279-329 (43.4 - 51.2%) –5.9% chance to 2HKO+2 252+ SpA Xerneas Psyshock vs. 4 HP / 252 Def Eviolite Chansey: 279-329 (43.4 - 51.2%) –98.8% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

I find the second Calc interesting, but Its almost next to Impossible that they would not switch in Chansey when you send out Xerneas, And After they use Confide…

+1 252+ SpA Xerneas Psyshock vs. 4 HP / 252 Def Eviolite Chansey: 209-247 (32.5 - 38.4%) –guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Thoughts? Thanks for the response, Have a Nice Day.

You’ll usually be going for Moonblast + Thunder + HP [Fire] or [Ground] as your four moves. If you run Close Combat, it would compromise Xerneas’s overall output against some more common foes such as Kyogre-Primal and all, and Chansey is pretty rare in NatDex AG anyways. Xerneas is a meta-shaping Pokémon with its Geomancy set, you can’t trade its sheer SpA power just to hit one single foe, which isn’t even that good right now! If Chansey gives you problems, you can pair the Xerneas with a Rayquaza-Mega, and a double to the Ray-M when you expect a Chansey switchin can make things ugly in seconds. You need the Hidden Power [Fire] or [Ground] as you need to overpower common things like Necrozma-DM, Zacian-C and Ferrothorn.Apparently this was a set back in OR/AS, where Life Orb All-Out Attacker Xerneas was pretty heat. It usually ran Moonblast STAB, Aromatherapy, Rock Slide or Thunder and Close Combat (or Focus Blast, but rarely). It’s far better over there as there’re not many Steel-types which can come for free on you, and you’re actually doing some damage to your most common checks in Chansey, Kyogre-Primal, Klefki and Ho-Oh. But sadly, the set’s out of date and is totally unviable in NatDex AG.

So in the end, I’ll suggest that you run the usually Geomancy set and pair it with something that can take care of the blobs if they are giving you issues, as they’re pretty rare anyways.Hope it helped!
