What are good counters to Mandibuzz and Gliscor?
By now I’m sure a lot of people have come across at least one if not both of these Pokemon in a competitive battle. Personally I can’t stand seeing them on the team preview and I’m tempted to switch the DS off…
Obviously they’re both weak toIcetype attacks but what I’m really interested in is what willOHKOthem easily without getting crippled themselves with theToxicstalling. I hate having stall battles, I don’t want to play Pokemon like that and I can’t blame people for using them withMega Kangaskhanrunning about.
I quite like the idea of using obscure/unique Pokemon. Would aWeavilework well or would I be looking to run something more standard like aMamoswine? But the aim is to try and get anOUPokemon that canOHKO MandibuzzandGliscorwithout having to set up and risk them setting upRoosts, Protects, Substitutesetc.

I’m going to add my opinion however I’d like to say that HellDoom gave an excellent answer, with Infiltrator Crobat / Thundurus-T.Alright so, first off both Gliscor and Mandibuzz have great physical bulk. Since most are physically bulky, using something like Weavile or Mamo wouldn’t neccesarily be bad, but Gliscor/Mandibuzz are still able to take their attacks>252+ Atk Weavile Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mandibuzz: 180-212 (42.4 - 50%) – guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery>252+ Atk Weavile Ice Punch vs. 244 HP / 248+ Def Gliscor: 316-376 (89.7 - 106.8%) – 43.8% chance to OHKO>252+ Atk Mamoswine Icicle Crash vs. 244 HP / 248+ Def Gliscor: 376-448 (106.8 - 127.2%) – guaranteed OHK>252+ Atk Mamoswine Icicle Crash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mandibuzz: 212-252 (50 - 59.4%) – 77.3% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
It’s more of a problem against Mandibuzz, due to it’s ability to then take an Ice Shard from either of them and roost off the damage, stalling them out if neccesary. Mamoswine also doesn’t like facing Gliscor behind a Substitute, unless running Icicle Spear.
Mandibuzz can still roost off Thunderbolt damage though due to higher speed, unless you’re running a fully offensive Rotom-W (eg. Scarf) In which it would 2HKO Mandibuzz and OHKO Gliscor no problems.
If you want to look for more defensive counters to those two, taunt users are the way to go. Skarmory variants with enoguh speed to outspeed and taunt, or against tauntless Gliscors and stuff wall it to no end. Sableye can take on both, Will-o-wisping them and taunting them, watching them die slowly while recover stalling.
This is a bit bizarre but I came up with the idea of using an infiltrator crobat. Since he is a poison type he is immune to toxic, infiltrator lets you hit the opponent behind subs, immune to gliscors earthquake and crobat can taunt them to prevent roosting etc.. And crobat can eventually take them down with brave bird+roost combination(since you dont want to take too much recoil) Now its very likely that the opponent will switch out of frustration but I would keep crobat alive just for them. Their attacks cant do anything to crobat(toxic immune, substitue doesnt matter, protect fails..) and crobat can just come in and do the same thing. So as long as crobat is still alive in your team, madibuzz and gliscors strategies are ruined.
Now this is just a strategy to RUIN their plans, but if you want to kill them off right away then use thunderus T. Thunderbolt and hidden power ice. There is your answer
I would recommend using an Articuno, as it won’t be affected by Gliscor’s ground attacks, and it has the Ice type, give it Zoom lens, and it’s blizzard will OHKO them being super effective and having a base power of 110, and if it’s holding Zoom lens, the accuracy is boosted. It also it hits both opposing Pokemon in a Double Battle. He’s obtainable in game as weel, that is, if you choose Chespin as your starter, and Articuno has rather high stats.
This may seem odd, but I would useJynxorCloyster. They both have good offensive stats (110 SpAtk and 90 Atk respectively) making them great Ice-Move abusers to knock out Mandibuzz and Gilscor. They also have decent speed stats of 95 and 70, with Jynx being able to outspeed both and Cloyster being able to outspeed them with some Shell Smashes. Here are movesets for both:
