What are some good choice Pokemon for Gen 5 UU?

17 minute read

Well, I decided to improve my skills that I must take into account the words of the fellowship. As I delve deeper into UU, I find finding and creating Choice users escaping me. So after the recent OU version, I wanted to post this. For the benefit for everyone obviously :3

Guys, don’t post the same Pokemon twice. If it’s a different item, that’s fine, but don’t post a same item and the same Pokemon as somebody else.

Weavile@ Choice ScarfTrait: PressureEVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 HPAdamant Nature- Ice Punch/Ice Shard- Low Kick- Pursuit- Night Slash

UU bosser. Death to all. terrible defensives, Mach Punch hurts like a *****. But still played right it rocks.

Ambipom@ Choice BandTrait: TechnicianEVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 SDefJolly Nature- Aerial Ace- U-Turn- Low Sweep- Return

Return STAB. U-Turn switch. Aerial Ace and Sweep coverage/Tech boost.

Why no Scarf? Already speedy as hell, and with Band has massive attack to destroy.Scarf Mienshao hurts, but prediction hurts more ;)

Now we all know that Substitute is better as a set, but just for the sake of beastly attack,I bring you:Machamp@ Choice BandTrait: GutsEVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDefAdamant Nature- Bullet Punch- Stone Edge/Ice Punch- Cross Chop/Close Combat- Earthquake

Well some variety. I prefer Ice Punch > Stone Edge and Cross Chop > Close Combat. However some people may go Close Combat for a switch in destroyer sort of poke.

Let’s try someone else shall we…

Bisharp(Since Prof wanted to do Cobalion xD)@ Choice ScarfTrait: Defiant / Inner FocusEVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 HPAdamant Nature- Iron Head- Brick Break- Aerial Ace- Night Slash

The speedy, hit-hard chess player. My imagination is running low, but, Inner Focus because Fake Out is common in UU. Defiant if you’re like me and don’t care xD

Ok I swear this is my last one :P

Yanmega@ Choice SpecsTrait: Speed BoostEVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 HPModest Nature- Hidden Power Ice- Giga Drain- Air Slash- Bug Buzz

bzzzzzzzzzzSMACK. Damn bug -.-

bzzzzzzzzzzzzzSMACK"ouch my face!!"

Oh boy, Choice sets are my favorite! :D Let’s begin.

Rotom-Heat @ Choice Specs/ScarfTrait: LevitateEVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 SDefModest/Timid Nature- Overheat- Volt Switch- Trick- Hidden Power [Grass]

Well, one of the most common Choiced Pokemons in UU. Pretty simply with what this guy can do. Overheat ruins anything not resistant to it, and hits extremely hard when Specs is on. Volt Switch is your STAB, and let’s you have one strong Pokemon who can hit-and-run. Trick is just amazing on this fellow, as you can usually ruin things such as Snorlax, who would not appreciate any of the 2 Choiced sets this guy runs. Also, while tricking your item away, you have the ability to switch up your moves and be more versatile. HP Grass is finally here to hit things like Rhyperior or Swampert, who resist & are immune to both of your STABs. The only thing this guy is gonna need is spin support, as SR is not something he favors to switch in to.

Machamp @ Choice BandTrait: No GuardEVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDefAdamant Nature- DynamicPunch- Ice Punch- Payback- Stone Edge

Welcome one of the scariest Banded Pokemons ever. :D This guy’s set is pretty simply to understand. DynamicPunch all the things, give them their fair share of confusion with a scary fighting STAB. Ice Punch here let’s you just DESTROY Flygon, CLaydol, Rotom-C, Nidoking/Queen, Roserade, and a lot more. Payback is really only here to be able to hit Ghost types for a bit more damage, making it enough to OHKO them (unless Sash saves them). Stone Edge lets you hit the Fire types and it a great move in general. Beware of Sableye and his Will-O-Wisp.

Rhyperior @ Choice BandTrait: Solid RockEVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDefAdamant Nature- Rock Blast- Megahorn- Earthquake- Aqua Tail (Replaceable)

Oh boy, look at that Base 140 Atk stat! Rock Blast here is prefered, since you might get lucky, hit some 3-5 times (hitting only twice sucks :/) and break subs like the Dino-Rock boss you are. Megahorn just puts fear in anything that is a Dark or Psychic type. Earthquake, c’mon, who doesn’t use it? It lets you hit scary UU threats such as Raikou, Fire types, or hit anything else for strong, good, reliant damage. Aqua Tail is so you can hit some other fellow Ground or Rock types scramblin to survive in UU. Though it’s an ok move, you can fit in any other move you think is best.

Crobat @ Choice BandTrait: Inner FocusEVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDefJolly Nature- Brave Bird- U-turn- Roost- Zen Headbutt/Cross Poison/Pursuit

Well, say hello to one scary Banded Pokemon. Not only does Band provide the power, but he also brings speed into this battle. Brave Bird. C’mon, only meant for this guy to abuse with a Band. Hurts anything except Rock or Steel types, and even then, still hit’s them pretty hard. U-Turn is kinda obvious, as it helps you scout the opponents team, and deal a good amount of damage with it. Roost may see weird here, but allow me to explain. The point of it is to go in there into something you resist or are immune to, Roost up for a turn while they switch, and then get the hell out of there. Zem Headbutt is just coverage, and you can opt to go for Cross Poison/Pursuit if you prefer

Chandelure @ Choice Scarf/SpecsTrait: Flash FireEVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 SDefTimid Nature- Flamethrower- Shadow Ball- Energy Ball- Trick

Well, why not add the scariest Ghost type in UU? I mean, just look at how deadly this thing is. Flamethrower is your most reliable Fire STAB, though you can decide if you want Fire Blast or Overheat instead. Shadow Ball is great, cause it hits anything hard, coming off that base 145 SAtk. Energy Ball lets you hit things who can take you down, such as Water types or Rock or Ground types. Trick, once again, could ruin any Physical Pokemon or set-up Pokemon. Just watch out for faster pokes with a STAB SE move on you.

That’s all for now, as I don’t want to exceed the 8000 character limit xP

Heracross @ Choice ScarfTrait: MoxieEVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpdJolly Nature- Close Combat- Megahorn- Stone Edge- Earthquake

Heracross is amazing in UU. With Moxie, 2 very powerful STAB moves, and decent coverage, he is great at revenge killing and sweeping alike. His STABs get decent coverage, while Stone Edge hits things such as Chandelure, Zapdos, and Crobat that resist his STAB moves, or threaten to kill him. Earthquake is generally ideal for the last slot as it hits Nidoking and Nidoqueen, who otherwise wall him. Earthquake can be swapped for Night Slash to hit Ghost type switch-ins such as Mismagius and Cofagrigus but it is usually not as good coverage as Earthquake. Also, Sleep Talk is an option for switching into Sleep Powders and Spores from Roserade and Amoonguss respectively, but you have to predict the move coming and it is generally better on the less common Guts Heracross.

Uxie @ Choice ScarfTrait: LevitateEVs: 252 HP / 4 SDef / 252 SpdCareful Nature- Trick- Stealth Rock- Thunder Wave- U-turn

This is probably one of my favorite Pokemon in the lower tiers. Despite being RU, Uxie is the ultimate support Pokemon for UU teams and works great as a designated lead. It can cripple enemy teams by Tricking something of theirs a Scarf, paralyzing it with Thunder Wave to negate the Scarf, and spread paralyzation even further, as well as being able to set rocks and scout with U-turn. Even with just 252 HP for bulk it is very hard to take down and you’ll find it’s extremely durable. It comes in as a great defensive pivot later in the game and I often use it as a punching bag, bringing it in to take a lashing that any of my other team mates coudn’t. Does Uxie care? Not a bit.

Meloetta @ Choice SpecsTrait: Serene GraceEVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 SpdTimid Nature- Psychic- Focus Blast- Thunderbolt- Shadow Ball

With base 128 SAtk and decent base 90 speed, Meloetta is a monster when wearing those designer Specs. Psychic is STAB, Focus Blast punches through Steel and Dark types, Thunderbolt takes down Slowbro and Suicune, and Shadow Ball is for hitting Ghost type switch ins trying to absorb a Relic Song or something

Darmanitan @ Choice Band/Choice ScarfTrait: Sheer ForceEVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 SpdJolly Nature- Flare Blitz- Rock Slide- Earthquake- U-turn

Huge Atk, powerful STAB move boosted by Sheer Force ability, and good coverage. What’s not to like about Darmanitan? It crushes a large portion of the tier with just its STAB for crying out loud. What’s not to like is that it kills itself when it uses said STAB more than once or twice, but in those 2 uses, an insane amount of damage will be dealt. Rock Slide has a flinch chance, good coverage, and is boosted by Sheer Force, and Earthquake just completes the coverage. U-turn is not usually advisable because of his weakness to SR but it can be useful for hitting Slowbro as it switches in.

Azumarill @ Choice BandAbility: Huge PowerEVs: 252 Atk, 252 HP, 4 DefNature: Adamant- Aqua Jet- Ice Punch- Super Power- Waterfall

Typical Azumarill sweeper set. You need some accurate prediction or Wish support for it to last long.

Weavile @ Choice BandAbility: PressureEVs: 252 Atk, 252 Speed, 4 HPNature: Jolly- Ice Shard- Ice Punch- Night Slash/ Low Kick- Pursuit

Choice Band Weavile. Heh. 8D

Flygon @ Choice Band/ ScarfAbility: LevitateEVs: 252 Atk, 252 Speed, 4 HPNature: Adamant/ Jolly- U-Turn- Outrage- Earthquake- Fire Punch

Clean up sweeper. Scarf might be better in order to outspeed threats like Heracross.

Krookodile @ Choice Scarf/ BandAbility: MoxieEVs: 252 Atk, 252 Speed, 4 HPNature: Adamant/ Jolly- Earthquake- Crunch- Pursuit/ Super Power- Stone Edge

Choiced Moxie is dangerous. Watch out for Sableye and Will-O-Wisp, and the Rotom forms with Earthquake.

Medicham @ Choice Band/ ScarfAbility: Pure PowerEVs: 252 Atk, 252 Speed, 4 HPNature: Jolly/ Adamant- Psycho Cut- Drain Punch- Thunder Punch- Trick

I know Medicham has a RU rating, but it’s just the same as Huge Power Azumarill, but with the added benefit of a move like Trick.

Zoroark @ Choice BandAbility: IllusionEVs: 252 Atk, 252 Speed, 4 HPNature: Jolly- U-Turn- Sucker Punch- Low Kick- PunishmentORZoroark @ Choice SpecsAbility: IllusionEVs: 252 Sp. Atk, 252 Speed, 4 HPNature: Timid- Extrasensory- Night Daze- Flame Thrower- Focus Blast

Scarf works for Zoroark too. Also the Punishment = calm mind stallers can eat my shorts.

Annoyer set:

Sableye @ Choice Scarf/ Lagging Tail/ Iron BallAbility: PranksterEVs: 252 HP, 120 Def, 136 Sp. DefNature: Calm- Recover- Trick- Will-O-Wisp- Night Shade

Also, very slightly alternative Victini moveset:

Vicitini @ Choice BandAbility: Victory StarEVs: 252 Atk, 252 Speed, 4 HPNature: Jolly- V-Create- Brick Break- Bolt Strike- U-Turn

Raikou @ Choice SpecsTrait: PressureEV’s: 252 Satk/ 252 Spe/ 4 HPModest Nature- Thunderbolt- Volt Switch- Shadow Ball- Hidden Power IceBasically, hit like a runaway train. Especially the bulky Water and Ghosts of the tier, such as Blastoise, Milotic, Dusclops, Mismagius, Suicune and the many Flying threats of the tier. HP Ice give excellent coverage and allows it to hit Ground types really hard. It struggles against Steel and Special tanks such as Snorlax and Swampert.

Arcenine @ Choice BandTrait: Flash FireEV’s: 252 Atk/ 252 Spe/ 4 HPAdamant Nature- Flare Blitz- Wild Charge- Extremspeed- Close Combat/ OutrageA dangerous attacker, capable of creating gaping holes in any unprepared team. Excellent Speed and fantastic Attack makes Bronzong and Registeel fear for their existence. However, Chandelure bars it if you choose Close Combat, and Outrage is a bit predictable.

Flygon @ Choice ScarfTrait: LeviateEV’s: 252 Atk/ 252 Spe/ 4 HPAdamant Nature- Outrage- Eartgquake- Fire Punch- U-TurnScouting and revenge killing basically. With a moveset that is unresisted in the tier, it is an effective scout/revenge killer. But it often fall just short of the OHKO range, so hazard support is very much appreciated.

EDIT: Seeing almost the entire is covered now, I am going to add a few more of the odd ones:

Snorlax @ Choice BandTrait: Thick FatEVs: 252 HP/ 252 Atk/ 4 DefAdamant Nature- Body Slam- Earthquake- Crunch- Fire Punch

Zapdos @ Choice SpecsTrait: PressureEVs: 252 Satk/ 252 Spe/ 4 HPTimid Nature- Thunderbolt- Heat Wave- Volt Switch- Hidden Power Ice

Bronzong @ Choice BandTrait: LevitateEVs: 252 HP/ 252 Atk/ 4 DefModest Nature- Zen Headbutt- Gyro Ball- Trick- Earthquake

Empoleon @ Choice SpecsTrait: TorrentEVs: 252 Satk/ 252 Spe/ 4 HPModest Nature- Hydro Pump/ Surf/ Scald- Grass Knot- Ice Beam/ Blizzard- Hidden Power Fighting/ Flash Cannon

Roserade @ Choice SpecsTrait: Natural CureEVs: 252 Satk/ 252 Spe/ 4 HPTimid Nature- Giga Drain/ Leaf Storm- Sludge Bomb- Extrasensory- Hidden Power Fire

Froslass @ Choice SpecsTrait: Cursed BodyEVs: 252 Satk/ 252 Spe/ 4 HPModest Nature- Ice Beam- Thunderbolt- Shadow Ball- Trick

Honchkrow@ Choice ScarfTrait: MoxieEVs: 252 Atk/ 252 Spe/ 4 HPJolly Nature- Brave Bird- Night Slash- Superpower- Pursuit

Mismagius @ Choice SpecsTrait: LevitateEVs: 252 Satk/ 252 Spe/ 4 HPNature- Shadow Ball- Thunderbolt- Hidden Power Fighting- Psychic/ Energy Ball/ Power Gem

Some decent ones have been mentioned already but no one mentioned Heracross?

Heracross @ Choice ScarfTrait: MoxieEVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpdJolly Nature-Close Combat-Sleep Talk-Stone Edge-Megahorn

Heracross is easily one if not the best late game sweepers in the whole game. Its nice coverage and beastly attack allow it to break holes in the opponents team when needed but otherwise preforms a great late game sweeper role very similar to Salamence. Moxie is what makes this Pokemon great. At +1 in the late game a stab CC or Megahorn hurts allot and usually leads to a second boost. Adamant can be used but isn’t needed with the boost. The extra speed can be nice. Sleep Talk means you can use heracross as sleep fodder in early game against Roserade before firing off move while it attempts to set up.The best counter is usually scarf Mienshao who carry Areal Ace usually for this needed coverage :D

This brings me to the next Pokemon

Mienshao @ Choice ScarfTrait: RegeneratorEVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpeedJolly nature-Hi Jump Kick-Stone Edge-Areal Ace-U-turn

U-turn and regen makes Mienshao a great scouting Pokemon. It has powerful stab Hi Jump Kick which will hit any Pokemon reasonably hard. The rest of the moves are very nice coverage. Mienshao is probably my favorite UU scarf Pokemon as it is very effective. That said it plays very similar to Scarf Terrakion where it can seem weak at times.

Ok one last one before I go

Victini @ Choice BandTrait: Victory StarEVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 SpeedAdamant nature-V-create

I am not finished just yet but there is basically all you need for Victini :D

If you must add in U-turn, Zen headbut and Bolt Strike.

Yeah I will edit later

Porygon-Z!!Porygon-Z @ Choice SpecsTrait: AdaptabilityEVs 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 SpeTimid Nature

or

Porygon-Z @ Choice ScarfTrait: AdaptabilityEVs 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 SpeModest Nature

Porygon-Z can break the two most common walls in UU aka Snorlax & Porygon2With STAB + Adaptability + Tri Attack, Porygon-Z deals massive damage.i suggest Scarf because scarf makes Porygon a revenge killer.

Ok, so everyone took all my answers >.< But that’s ok :D I have different sets.My all time favorite scarfer in UU is Chandy. Now I know Le[nub]boss already did this, but my set is a tad bit different.

Chandelure @ Choice ScarfTrait: Flash FireEVs: 4 HP / 252 HP / 252 SpeNature: Timid (+Spe, -Atk)

So, um, this Chandy can take down so many threats in UU, Heracross, Yanmega, Gligar (kind of), etc. Flash Fire boosted Fire Blast = 2HKO at least for so many things. Rest is self explanatory. But of course, Le[nub]boss took this. So let’s move on:

Kingdra @ Choice SpecsTrait: Swift SwimEVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 SpeNature: Timid (+Spe, -Atk) OR Modest (SpA, -Atk)

Specs Kingdra is a major threat to all who don’t resist, though admittedly Dragon Dance is by far my favorite Kingdra set, that doesn’t mean Kingdra can’t be Specs. This set works best with Rain Dance, the extra speed boost with the sheer power of specs, well, equales good bye. Moveset is kinda obvious, though the only thing is the Hidden Power. You can choose that to your Liking, or just add Dragon Pulse there so you don’t have to loose the SpA every time with Draco Meteor.

Houndoom @ Choice ScarfTrait: Flash FireEVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 SpeNature: Timid (+Spe, -Atk) or Modest (+SpA, -Atk)

While Houndoom usually is good with Nasty Plot, Scarfing it does have it’s uses. For one, it outspeeds Heracross, the most common Pokemon in the tier (or one of the most common). It also does pack a punch in killing many fast Pokemon. For the final move slot, you can put Sucker Punch to kill off fast revengers, I couldn’t think of anything, becuse you really don’t need anything :\

Sharpedo @ Choice BandTrait: Speed BoostEVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpeNature: Jolly (+Spe, -SpA) OR Adamant (+Atk, SpA)

Banded Sharpedo is a monster when it’s able to get some boosts. The sheer power + the Spe is just a threat to any who stand in it’s way. It also has an ok movepool, allowing to hit some Pokemon. Aqua Jet is there as a revenge killing thing move.

Mew[derator] @ Choice SpecsTrait: SynchroniseEVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 SpeNature: Timid (+Spe, -Atk)

Mew has a great movepool, and pair that up with a power Specs, game over. The great movepool I have up there is just a tiny one in hundreds, there are many other moves you can put, including the Nasty Plot set. But Specs Mew is just to surprise the opponent and just hit hard the first time.

That’s all for now. I might add some more is I find any. Hope you liked it ^-^

Alright then…My turn!!

Darmanitan @ Choice Scarf / Choice BandTrait: Sheer ForceEVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 SDefAdamant Nature- Earthquake- Flare Blitz- Superpower / Earthquake- U-turn / Rockslide

This guys is an absolute monster! 95 Speed outdoes a lot of UU anyway, so with scarf it outruns all non scarfs with the possible exception of some crobat. Even Blastoise and slowbro prefer not to take a Flare Blitz, anything that doesn’t resist it is going to be OHKOed. U-turn out of there if you don’t think you can do enough damage, or to get slowbro reeling. Superpower provides some nice Rock coverage against the likes of Rhyperior. Earthquake is just coverage, same with Rock slide, as they perform a SlideEdge combo. Fera him if you know what’s good for you.

Azelf @ Choice BandTrait: LevitateEVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDefJolly Nature- Fire Punch- U-turn- Zen Headbutt- Explosion / Payback / Trick

Although pure Psychic typing doesn’t do any favours, the amazing power and speed that Azelf brings is rivaled by an Elite few. It can sweep whole unprepared teams, as my UU master Slip..showed me. Fire punch will be rid of any annoying steel types. U-Turn adds momentum to the team, while still doing good damage. Zen headbutt is a powerful STAB designed to hurt. If Az can’t take much more, bring them down with you with Explosion. No one shall escape Azelf..no one..

Hope I helped to everyone reading xD

Cobalion @ Choice Scarf / Choice BandTrait: JustifiedEVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 SAtkNaughty Nature- Close Combat- Iron Head- Stone Edge- Volt Switch / Zen Headbutt

Here is the might Cobalion! His steel heart feels no emotion, as he drives his almighty power upon those that oppose his wrath. CC provides unbridled aggression and fury against friends and foes alike. Iron head, while not being a particular good coverage move, still unleashes fury. Stone Edge and Zen finish the Job to beat down it’s fire and fight type enemies. Volt switch can be used to maintain momentum, but Zen is preferred.

Kingdra @ Choice ScarfTrait: SniperEVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 SAtkLonely Nature- Outrage- Waterfall- Ice Beam / Sleep talk- Draco Meteor

Scarf King is considered very dangerous. Unlike Specs, this one can pull of mixed sets providing much better coverage and beating down on snorlax much easier. Draco likes to hit on the switch, making up for low Spatk with power. Sleep talk seems strange, but it trolls sleep powder users so hard.
