What are some good hazard setters in Gen 8 OU?
Hello! I was completing a team for Generation 8 OU on Showdown, I felt like my team could use a hazard setter. However, I am struggling to find a good one. There seems to not be many options, but I could be wrong. So I was wondering, what are some good hazard setters for OU? While you don’t have to supply a full on moveset for the Pokémon(s), I’d appreciate a move or two that compliment them. Here is the team I have so far:
Alakazam @ Focus SashAbility: Magic GuardShiny: YesEVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 SpeTimid NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Calm Mind- Energy Ball- Psyshock- Shadow Ball
Tangrowth @ Assault VestAbility: RegeneratorEVs: 252 HP / 140 Atk / 4 Def / 112 SpD- Earthquake- Power Whip- Knock Off- Rock Slide
Togekiss @ LeftoversAbility: Serene GraceEVs: 128 HP / 252 SpA / 128 SpeModest NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Air Slash- Thunder Wave- Flamethrower- Roost
Scolipede @ Heavy-Duty BootsAbility: Speed BoostEVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 SpeAdamant Nature- Megahorn- Rock Slide- Poison Jab- Protect
Palossand @ LeftoversAbility: Water CompactionShiny: YesEVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpDModest NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Giga Drain- Scorching Sands- Shore Up- Shadow Ball
While you can feel free to leave minor suggestions, I’d appreciate if you wouldn’t replace any of the Pokémon or make major changes, as I’ll likely make a RMT question after I finish it.
Thanks in advance!

Excadrill - Excadrill has a good typing, decent speed, and access to Stealth Rock. Some other moves to compliment Stealth Rock are Rapid Spin to keep hazards off your side, or Steel Beam to prevent Defog (if you use Steel Beam on a slower Defogger, Defog will fail and you will keep Stealth Rock and gain a free switch in to another member of the team that can punish the Defogger).
Chansey/Blissey - Chansey and Blissey have high HP and access to good utility in Teleport in addition to Stealth Rock. A moveset that can work on both of them is Seismic Toss, Soft Boiled, Toxic, and Stealth Rock.
Ferrothorn - Ferrothorn has an amazing typing and multiple ways of setting hazards in Spikes and Stealth Rock. The other moves are preference, but Knock Off, Body Press, and Power Whip are good choices.
Kommo-o - Good defensive dragon stealth rocker that can also use Body Press effectively.
Toxapex - If you need Toxic Spikes (although they aren’t the most reliable) this is a good choice. It has other good utility moves too such as Knock Off, Scald, Haze, Recover, Baneful Bunker, and Toxic.
Hope this helped!
Note: I will go into detail for 2 that I think are good. I will give more options at the end.Stealth RockClefableWith access to Stealth Rocks, Clefable can set hazards nicely. Also, Clefable has the great ability, Magic Guard. This allows For Clefable to safely switch in to any Stallers and any Hazards to allow for multiple times to switch in. Also, as being a Fairy Type, it has enough offensive presence to force a switch on some Pokémon. Clefable also has healing via Moonlight.
HippowdonWith great 108/112/72 bulk, Hippowdon is a great Physical Wall. With this being said, it can easily switch in to common threats like Urshifu Single Strike, Kommo-o and Physical Dragapault without any issues. Along with Stealth Rock, It gets Whirlwind, and Slack Off for healing to annoy many teams. I think Hippowdon would work well On this team.
SpikesFerrothornFerrothorn has a great typing that only gives it 2 weaknesses, but both are covered nicely on your team by Palossand. Ferrothorn has great bulk with 51/131/116 to make it a very good mixed wall. With those good Defensive stats, Ferrothorn can easily set up Spikes very well. Also, Ferrothorn get Leech Seed for some healing as well. I have used Ferrothorn and it worked well for me.SkarmorySkarmory is again like Hippowdon. A good Physical Wall. Skarmory can again deal well against some of the Physical threats in OU, but its weaknesses are primarily performed by Special Attackers such as Rotom- Heat for example. Luckily, these are covered well by your team again. Back to Skarmory though. Skarmory gets Healing in Roost and Whirwind to annoy teams as well. Due to this, I believe it is a solid setter of Spikes. Also, Klefki gets priority Spikes which is useful.
Toxic Spikex
Toxapex
Again, much like Ferrothorn, Toxapex has great bulk to set up Toxic Spikes. With 50/152/142 bulk, Toxapex can survive hits to set up Toxic Spikes nicely. Combined with Haze, Recover and Regenerator, Toxapex can easily switch in and out to counter many Pokémon that try to set up on you. Also, with Scald, with Scald, Toxapex can cripple any Physical Attackers that tend to run Heavy-Duty Boots.
Other OptionsHeatran has a great typing to switch into many Pokémon to set up Stealth Rocks. As noted, Klefki has Priority Spikes.Excadrill has Rapid Spin and Stealth Rock.Hope this helps!Source: Experience and Smogon.
Hmm, looking at your team, I feel like it could make good use of a sandstorm, since Alakazam has Magic Guard, and Palossand appreciates the extra HP gained in a sandstorm from Shore Up. You have no way to remove hazards as well, so why not a Tyranitar + Excadrill combo? If you don’t want to use Sand Stream, Excadrill learns both Rapid Spin and Stealth Rock, and even though a Choice Scarf + Mold Breaker set would work better, a Focus Sash is usuable due to its rather mediocre defenses.
Excadrill @ Focus SashAbility: Mold BreakerEVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 SpeJolly Nature- Earthquake- Iron Head- Stealth Rock- Rapid Spin
Another option is Ferrothorn, which can set up both Stealth Rock and Spikes, plus it’s bulky, so it has a good chance of setting up a couple of layers of Spikes.
Ferrothorn @ Leftovers / Rocky HelmetAbility: Iron BarbsEVs: 252 HP / 196 Def / 60 SpDImpish Nature- Stealth Rock- Spikes- Thunder Wave / Leech Seed- Knock Off
I’ll explain the set a bit. Leftovers are for recovery. Rocky Helmet is if you would prefer to punish physical attackers greatly with Iron Barbs. Stealth Rock and Spikes are for entry hazards (duh, that’s the point of this answer lol). Thunder Wave supports the team on the Leftovers set, and Leech Seed is for recovery on the Rocky Helmet variant. Knock Off removes items, which is good for item reliant Pokemon.
Klefki can set up Spikes, as well as dual screens, all with +1 priority (Prankster), though it’s in RU, unless you’re not too worried about that.
Klefki @ Light ClayAbility: PranksterEVs: 252 HP / 136 Def / 120 SpDBold NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Spikes- Light Screen- Reflect- Foul Play
Finally, there is Toxapex for Toxic Spikes (oh, also, to annoy your opponent out of their mind, if you’re into that kind of play :P).
Toxapex @ Black SludgeAbility: RegeneratorEVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpDBold NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Toxic Spikes- Haze- Recover- Scald
Fun set to use.
If you want more suggestions, just tell me.
Hope this helps! :)
