VGC Set

Coalossal @ Weakness PolicyAbility: Steam EngineLevel: 50EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpDModest NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Meteor Beam- Fire Blast- Solar Beam- Protect

Pair this with Surf Dragapult. Steam Engine + Weakness Policy activates, and you sweep. Meteor Beam helps deal even more rock offensive power, so you don’t have to rely on Ancient Power anymore. :P

Hazard Setter / Anti Cinderace

This Pokemon does everything to stop Cinderace. It can switch in to a Pyro Ball to get +6 Speed, then Rock Blast it away, or Rapid Spin away the Court Changed hazards, or live a High Jump Kick to get a Weakness Policy boost on top of a Steam Engine boost to sweep. Coalossal sets hazards, can Rapid Spin away hazards, and can check Cinderace or Ferrothorn depending on the moveset.

Whenever this Pokemon bumps into any water type attacks, it can use endure to live that since it’s 4x weak to water and boost the speed completely by 6 stages from its steam engine ability and plus the weakness policy will boost attack and special attack by 2 stages.

Basically a better way to check water types. Recommended with D-Max or G-Max, because Ancient Power is not that good on its own, and obviously for Solar Beam to turn into Max Overgrowth.

This was my recent playthrough set for Coalossal before postgame(so no Weakness Policy) and it was really fun. Tar Shot is good against AI because they tend not to switch. Makes Flamethrower super effective so Expert Belt should always work(never actually tested the numbers on that though!). Will-O-Wisp is there for safer switches because my team lacked physical bulk(Should be Scorching Sands now). Flamethrower because I wanted this to be a special attacker as I already had like 3 physical attackers on my team. That leaves Ancient Power as the only real option for rock STAB so there’s that. I know Tar Shot is prob trash in competitive settings but I plan on taking this online and having fun with it.

First use spikes and stealth rock a few times. Then use tar shot and if you are still alive after all that use fire punch. If your opponent reflects your hazards back at you have a cinderace with court chance and heavy duty boots ready.

While I’m aware this set is really similar to fwoofyy’s, this one has Heavy Duty Boots and is specially defensive. This set is to be used in Grassy Terrain. Why, you might ask? Since Coalossal has a 4x weakness to ground, Grassy Terrain somewhat helps as it halves Earthquake’s power. Rapid Spin is to spin away hazards on your side. Rock Blast is to do chip damage and can help break sashes, subs, and Sturdy. Spikes and Stealth Rock is to set up hazards. Thwackey is a good partner for Coalossal, as it sets up Grassy Terrain, can deal with water types that threaten Coalossal, and can use Knock Off to get rid of opposing Pokemon wearing Heavy Duty Boots, meaning they can get exposed to Spikes and Stealth Rock. 4 Speed EVs allows Coalossal to speed creep… well, opposing Coalossal.

Is this an Endure + Steam Engine set? No. Is this an Endure + Flame Body set? Yes. This is more likely than not the most common Coalossal set for Rock Monotype in National Dex Monotype. The item is Air Balloon (which is commonly used) to somewhat help out your ground weakness. Endure combined with Flame Body allows you to be able to fish for the 30% burn chance from Flame Body, which can help you check opposing Pokémon like Mega-Scizor and Rillaboom. Fire Blast is for STAB. Scorching Sands is for coverage against Pokemon like Heatran and also has a 30% chance to burn opposing Pokémon. Rapid Spin is to clear hazards like Sticky Web Toxic Spikes away.

A defensive set Coalossal can use in Gen 9 NU. Spikes allow Coalossal to setup a hazard that chips grounded Pokemon switching in. Heat Crash is used for the Fire STAB since the Pokemon Coalossal would use Heat Crash against aren’t heavier than it. Flamethrower is an option if you want to hit Copperajah harder. Scald lets Coalossal hit Pokemon such as Salazzle and opposing Coalossal super effectively. Scald is also nice since it has the 30% chance to burn opposing Pokemon.I also find it funny Coalossal can even learn Scald.Rapid Spin lets Coalossal clear away entry hazards on its side of the field. Heavy-Duty Boots prevents Coalossal from being chipped by hazards. Tera Water lets Coalossal actually have a good defensive typing.(And boost the power of Scald lol.)

The EV spread and nature depends on wheter you want Coalossal to be physically defensive or specially defensive. Sassy Nature goes with the 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD EV spread, while Relaxed goes with the 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD EV spread.
