Gen 9 OU

Cyclizar @ Choice BandAbility: RegeneratorTera Type: Normal / FireEVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 SpeJolly Nature- Outrage / Dragon Claw- Double-Edge / Body Slam- Knock Off / Tera Blast (Fire)- U-turn

So it’s been like 4 days since Cyclizar was unbanned from OU. It cannot use Shed Tail anymore. I have no idea how viable it will be, it seems like it can do lots of things decently well. This Choice Band set is sort of reminiscent to Choice Specs Dragapult for me, a fast offensive Pokemon with strong moves despite a relatively low base offensive stat.

Cyclizar doesn’t have a STAB Shadow Ball, and its STABs are resisted by Steel, a common type, but Double-Edge has a higher base power than Shadow Ball.

Outrage is a risky move but there are not that many Fairies running around to punish you for it, instead what you need to worry about is Steel types, but that’s what its other moveslots are for.

Knock Off lets you smack Gholdengo hard, and cripple most checks so that they will be hard pressed to switch into another strong STAB move.

Tera Blast Fire is to hit Air Balloon Gholdengo and pre-tera Kingambit hard in one slot. In most cases, I think it is a better play to Tera Fire instead of U-turning against Kingambit, because supposedly you bring in Great Tusk. Kingambit has like 6 different Teras at its disposal to beat Great Tusk. It’s best if you Tera Blast it for like 65 instead of U-turning and letting Kingambit prank your Great Tusk and SD on its newly resisted attack and then 2hko back. It’s the most riskless play.

U-turn is still great though, it allows you to preserve momentum against Pokemon you can’t 2hko and bring in something that can.

Alternatively, one can run Body Slam to pose a risk of paralysis and pressure traditional switchins. You can also run Overheat with a more mixed offensive spread to be able to hurt the aforementioned Gholdengo and Kingambit, without giving up on Tera Normal’s power.

Pokemon you should be weary of clicking Outrage on are Dragapult, Garganacl, defensive Garchomp, Kingambit, and Skeledirge, as they can use Tera Fairy viably in their movesets. Fairy types in general like Hatterene and Iron Valiant, for obvious reasons too.

Cyclizar pairs well with string Rapid Spin support from Great Tusk, and the help of stronger breakers to tear down defensive cores. Cyclizar and Pokemon like Greninja, Baxcalibur, Dragonite, Dragapult, Roaring Moon, Floatzel (in rain), IronPress Garganacl, Kingambit, Meowscarada, and Gholdengo synergize well, due to their ability to break down each other’s checks or overwhelm their shared checks.

Have fun!

Cyclizar Shed Tail Passing (OU)

Cyclizar@ Sitrus Berry / LeftoversAbility:RegeneratorTera Type:Dragon / SteelEVs:252 HP / 252 Spe / 4 SpATimid Nature- Shed Tail- Draco Meteor- Knock Off- U-turn/ Protect / Hyper Voice

With this setup the main goal is toprovide switch in and a Substitute for an ally Pokémon. WithRegeneratoryou regain33% of Max HP upon switching. The health loss upon using Shed Tail is roughly 50%, meaning you only lose a little under17% health after using Shed Tail. Sitrus Berryactivates before switching out, meaning you will beback to full HP the first time you used Shed Tail.Alternatively you could useLeftovers with Protectto regain more health over time, and scout the opponent’s moves.

Timidnature allows it tooutspeed Jolly nature Roaring Moonwhich would otherwise threaten to KO it with Outrage or Dragon Claw.

252 HPto giveas much health as possible to the Substitutes passed by Shed Tailand to increase Cyclizar’s overall bulk.

Draco Meteoris to deal decentdamage before switching outif your opponent leads with a glass cannon, since the Special Attack drop doesn’t matter much when you will switch out anyway.

Knock Off’s primary purpose isremoving opposing Leftovers, Eviolite, Heavy-Duty Boots, or Rocky Helmetsto provide support for teammates, rather than dealing damage, which is why the Timid nature isn’t as big of a deal.

U-turnis primarily to switch out when you expect to beTauntedor to gain momentum by dealing repeated chip damage when switching on the manyBug-weak Dark typesin the current OU Metagame like theTreasures of Ruin, Meowscarada and Roaring Moon.

Terastallizing is not recommended, since this is a setup build, made for giving anopportunity to a teammate to set up a sweep. If by any chance you find yourself in a pinch and need the extra damage output, you could Terastallize into a Dragon type topower up your Draco Meteors, or into aSteel type to withstand Fairy- and Ice movesmore effectively.

Gen 9 Monotype Utility (Dragon)Cyclizar @ Heavy-Duty BootsAbility: RegeneratorEVs: 232 HP / 24 SpA / 252 SpeTimid Nature- Shed Tail- Rapid Spin- Knock Off- Draco Meteor

A Utility set for Dragon teams in Gen 9 Monotype. Shed Tail is used to create Subs for your teammates. Shed Tail also makes Cyclizar switch out, activating Regenerator to recover some of the HP you lose from Shed Tail. Rapid Spin is used to get rid of hazards on your side. Knock Off is used to cripple Pokemon switching in by removing their items. Draco Meteor is used to get rid of Dragon-types such as Roaring Moon, opposing Cyclizar, and Dragapult.

Heavy-Duty Boots is used to prevent Cyclizar from getting chipped from Stealth Rock, Spikes, and being poisoned from Toxic Spikes. 232 HP makes Cyclizar’s HP number 339. 339 is divisible by 3, meaning that Cyclizar gets maximum Regenerator recovery. The leftover EVs are used in Special Attack to give Draco Meteor a little power.

Cyclizar @ Choice SpecsAbility: RegeneratorTera Type: DragonEVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 SpeTimid NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Draco Meteor- Shed Tail- Thunderbolt- Overheat

Here we go. If only this was in OU. Anyways, we got a typical Draco Meteor as STAB, Thunderbolt for Iron Bundle, Overheat to be paired with Koraidon for some significanthurting. Shed Tail means it can still function fine as a regular Cyclizar.

Please don’t hurt my feelings down below, I’ve said all your criticism as I’m typing this.

Profreshional Cheese Eater,MrKensa

This is going to be fun. Now that Shed Tail is banned, Orthworm is dead, and Cyclizar will rise again as a support god.

Samus (Cyclizar) @ Heavy-Duty BootsAbility: RegeneratorTera Type: Don’tEVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 SpeJolly Nature- Rapid Spin- Taunt- U-turn- Knock Off

This thing is a menace. With such a large movepool, I wish I could put everything on this, but sadly, we are confined to only 4 fantastic moves instead of more. With Taunt, it can shut down threats like Clodsire and the despicable Toxapex. It also has Knock Off for things that lean on their item a lot, like Gholdengo, Volcarona, Typhlosion, Ceruledge, Greninja, and Clodsire. Heavy-Duty Boots is for switching in to remove hazards with Rapid Spin, and with Knock Off nothing will dare to spin-block you. U-Turn is a generally great move, and with easy access to tanky sweepers like Great Tusk, Garganacl, and Kingambit, you might just get a sweep off.

You Beat:ClodsireVolcaronaGholdengoCeruledgeTyphlosionIron Valiant

You Lose To:Bulky SweepersGreat TuskGreninjaDragapult

Top Teammate:Kingambit. Of the bulky sweepers, I find this one to be the best. It has massive bulk and only one check, which you can get around by Tera-ing. Gambit also beats all of Cyclizar’s main checks, besides Great Tusk.

SummaryNow that Cyclizar is back in OU, the tier will make some major changes. I probably won’t be around those parts much, now that I’ve discovered UU. But I know for certain Orthworm is gone.

(Edit: This fell to UU, which I was not prepared for, but oh well)

Also, the great ケンサさん will tell the future, as with Baxcalibur: Ursaluna will be in OU for a good month or two once it comes out, then will drop to UU, rip the tier to pieces, than get banned to BL.

Bye.MrKensa
