Tony (Flygon) (F) @ Choice SpecsAbility: LevitateEVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 SpeTimid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)- Draco Meteor- Earth Power- Fire Blast- Giga Drain / Solar Beam

Draco Meteor is extremely powerful, backed up by STAB and Specs.Earth Power is STAB as well and has good coverage, also takes care of Draco’s only resistance.Fire Blast for more coverage, hitting Grass types for solid damage.Giga Drain finishes off Waters and has nice coverage with Fire Blast, also punishes dem Swamperts and Quagsires and takes care of Rhyperior as well.Sun support allows Flygon to use SolarBeam and it’s Fire Blast is powered up so that’s an option as well, but the healing from Giga Drain is very welcome.

Hey! Lately I discovered Flygon, and he became my third favorite Pokemon. I went to Pokemon Showdown and tried some random movesets for him! I found one that was absolutelyDEVASTATING. I wrecked a whole team with only Flygon. So I decided to share it for everyone else! So, here it is!

Flygon @ Lum BerryAbility: LevitateEVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpeAdamant Nature- Dragon Dance- Outrage- Earthquake- Fire Punch

Basically, you switch in Flygon, and you get that Dragon Dance. It will give him a boost for his already great attack and speed stat! Now you’ll get that Outrage. You can use Outrage freely the first time unless we get crippled by Knock Off, Switcheroo, Will-o-wisp, Toxic or Smeargle’s Spore. It’s not a problem that often, though. If you run into fairy types, you have both Earthquake and Fire Punch. (Yes, there’s a reason I didn’t take a poison or steel type move..) Earthquake for coverage against steel. Now, reason for Fire Punch: I god damn hate Whimsicott. I saw so many who wrecked Flygon because Earthquake couldn’t keep it up. Besides, we just covered his massive weakness against ice. Tell me if you have any suggestions for things I should change! :D I know that I might get hated for not taking Stone Edge ;-;. But what the heck should I do against Ferrothorn, Whimsicott and other resistant douches?

Gen 8 NUFlygon @ Throat SprayAbility: LevitateEVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 SpeTimid NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Earth Power- Dragon Pulse- Flamethrower- Bug Buzz / Boomburst

Earth Power and Dragon Pulse are STAB moves. Flamethrower is coverage. Bug Buzz or Boomburst (which one you choose) is to activate Throat Spray, which will boost Flygon’s special attack 1 stage. That is equivalent to a Choice Specs boost, meaning that once Throat Spray is consumed, Flygon has a bit more freedom than Specs Flygon, since Specs would lock Flygon into one move.

Flygon@Choice BandAbility:LevitateEVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpeJollyNature-U-Turn-Earthquake-Stone Edge-Outrage

He’s on one of my new teams, and I love it! It’s a Flygon with Scout and Sweeper terms.U-Turnis for scouting, gives nice coverage, Choice banded U-turn hits hard on the switch out.Earthquakeis STAB! Every good ground type needs Earthquake!Outrageis high powered, STAB, and Banded, it’ll do some damage.

Gen 8 NUFlygon @ Rocky HelmetAbility: LevitateEVs: 252 HP / 60 Def / 48 SpA / 148 SpeBold NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Earth Power- Toxic- Defog / U-Turn- Roost

With Entei recently dropping to NU, a defensive set like this or something similar to this are probably going to get more common. Earth Power is STAB and is chosen over Earthquake so you won’t be screwed by a burn from Entei’s Sacred Fire. Toxic is to poison switch-ins. Defog is to clear entry hazards. U-Turn can be used instead of Defog for pivoting. Roost is for healing. 252 HP is to help give Flygon some bulk. 148 Speed EVs allows you to outspeed max speed Jolly Tyrantrum and max speed Modest Rotom-Mow. 48 Special Attack EVs allow to 2HKO and possibly OHKO Tyrantrum after Stealth Rock The rest of the EVs go to defense.

Substitute + Dragon DanceGen 8 NUFlygon @ LeftoversAbility: LevitateEVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 SpeJolly Nature- Substitute- Dragon Dance- Earthquake- Dragon Claw

Sub Dragon Dance set. Substitute allows you to scout and allows you to avoid status conditions. Dragon Dance is to boost your attack and speed, and allows you to make an effective late game sweeper. Earthquake is for ground type STAB. Dragon Claw is dragon STAB that allows you to hit most Pokémon immune or resistants to ground type moves like Talonflame, Braviary, Rotom-C, and Decidueye for nuetral damage.

Since Flygon doesn’t like fairy types, steel types like Heatproof Bronzong and Copperajah are appreciated. These steel types resist fairy moves and in turn, appreciate Flygon’s ability to switch in to ground moves. Flygon can have trouble with physical walls, so special wallbreakers like Rotom-C and Celebi can be useful to deal physical walls like Mudsdale and Vileplume.

Gen V

Flygon (F) @ Choice ScarfAbility: LevitateEVs: 252 Atk / 128 SpA / 128 SpeNaughty Nature- Dragon Claw- Fire Blast- Earthquake- Stone Edge

Choice Scarf allows it to put in EVs into the offensive stats. Fire Blast allows it to take down Steel types that are otherwise immune to Earthquake, such as Bronzong and Skarmory. Dragon Claw provides STAB, and a super-effective hit on other Flygon, Haxorus, Druddigon, Altaria, and Kingdra if it is allowed in UU (I think it is, but I’m not certain). It also gets those powerful neutral hits. Stone Edge gets good type coverage with Earthquake.

Flygon @ Life OrbAbility: LevitateLevel: 50EVs: 132 HP / 252 Atk / 124 SpeJolly Nature- U-turn- Earthquake- Dragon Claw- Dragon DanceA set for gen 7 because it gets dragon dance. So once you set up dragon dance there’s dragon claw and earthquake for stab moves. U-turn is for a bit of coverage and momentum gaining if you have to get out of there. The EV’s are for the battle spot and allow flygon to outspeed up to max speed aerodactyl after a d dance. The rest maxes out attack to hit as hard as possible and then some into HP to more reliably set up dragon dance

A repost of an original Flygon set I made when answering a question about Dragons in Gen 8. It seemed to get lots of good feedback on that thread so I’ll share it here.

Flygon @ Expert Belt / Blunder Policy* / Life OrbAbility: LevitateEVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 SpeAdamant Nature- Dragon Dance- Earthquake- Superpower / Stone Edge- coverage move (Fire Punch, First Impression, Dragon Rush if you’re real brave)

Now there is definitely a reason Flygon wasn’t put in OU, and I’m sure that reason is because it’s not as good as other Dragon-type options, but it’s still plenty capable of holding its own. I had a bit of a tough time thinking of the proper item for it. I almost Life Orbed it, but I’m not so sure I want a DDancer with an even further limited health pool. It’s usable in OU, but can be a little bit of a risk if you don’t know exactly what its problems are.

Flygon is kind of strange in that it is both predictable and not. Most every one of them you’ll see has Dragon Dance now, but what it chooses to butcher its opponents with is not as clear beyond the staple Earthquake. I would recommend taking one of Superpower or Stone Edge to fend off Ice types. Superpower has more power overall, more reliable accuracy, the ability to delete Hydreigon, Tyranitar and Bisharp (if Earthquake isn’t enough), and finally an unfortunate drop that you can handle thanks to Dragon Dance. However, it’s not quite as well-covering as Stone Edge would be, which takes care of Flying-types and Rotom-Heat, which Flygon would struggle to deal with otherwise.

The final move is up to you. Fire Punch would remove Ferrothorn and Scizor, First Impression can let you sneak a hit in if necessary, Dragon Rush is a strong move with poor accuracy but would help in defeating a Dracovish. If you want to run Dragon Rush on this set, that would be the time to use a Blunder Policy, as Dragon moves usually get poor coverage, defeating the purpose of the belt. Stone Edge also would benefit from the use of this item.

In all, Flygon’s a wildcard that you could throw in to take care of specific threats your team struggles with. If you’re using it in a tier above what it’s designed for (OU as a UU mon), it struggles with Mamoswine with a 4x weakness to Ice Shard (yikes). Unaware Clefable will also not only wall Flygon but probably kill it before it can do sufficient damage.

Non Choiced Item OffensiveGen 8 NUFlygon @ Rocky HelmetAbility: LevitateEVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 SpeJolly Nature- Earthquake- Toxic- Roost- U-turn

You’re probably thinking that this would be better with a bulkier EV spread, but I’ve seen some sets like this that has max Attack and max Speed EVs. Earthquake is STAB that you pretty much use for attacking opposing Pokémon. Toxic helps to wear down physically defensive Pokemon like Mudsdale and punishes Pokemon who are immune to ground type moves like Talonflame and Rotom-Mow switching in. Roost is for healing. U-Turn is for pivoting out of bad matchups such as Levitate Bronzong.

Mixed Life OrbGen 8 NUFlygon @ Life OrbAbility: LevitateEVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 SpeHasty Nature- Earthquake- Stone Edge / Roost- Fire Blast / Draco Meteor- U-turn

Mixed Life Orb set. Earthquake is ground STAB. Stone Edge allows you to hit flying types like Braviary and Talonflame super effectively. You can use Roost instead if you want to heal yourself. Fire Blast is coverage for hitting Levitate Bronzong and grass Pokemon like Rotom-Mow and Dhelmise for super effective damage. Draco Meteor can be used instead if you want to use dragon STAB to punish physically defensive Pokemon. U-Turn is for pivoting.

Itemless Offensive DefogGen 8 NUFlygonAbility: LevitateEVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 SpeJolly Nature- Earthquake- Stone Edge- Defog- Roost

An Itemless Offensive Defog that can allow you to switch into Poltergeist. Earthquake is for a ground STAB move. Stone Edge is for coverage against Pokémon like Braviary, Araquanid, and Talonflame. Defog is for clearing away entry hazards. Roost is for healing so you can stay in the game longer.

Fly (Flygon) @ Life OrbAbility: LevitateEVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpeJolly Nature- Stone Edge- Dragon Dance- Dragon Claw- Earthquake

Explanation:

Straight forward. Just dance and sweep. Stone Edge covers nuisance, saying–Ice Types.

Fly 2.0 (Flygon) @ Choice ScarfAbility: LevitateEVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpeJolly Nature- Stone Edge- Earthquake- Throat Chop- Superpower

Explanation:

Just go ahead and attack.

Fly 3.0 (Flygon) @ Eject Button / Life OrbAbility: LevitateEVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpeJolly Nature- First Impression- U-Turn- Earthquake- Dragon Claw

First Impression then run!!! Unless they’re a steel-type, you have to use earthquake.

Gen 8 SS Monotype(Ground)

Trapinch @ Choice BandAbility: Arena TrapEVs: 168 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 84 SpeAdamant Nature- First Impression- Earthquake- Superpower- Crunch

Before you think I’m insane and downvote this post, please hear me out. Trapinch, despite being an LC Pokemon and having a 280 BST, has a small niche in SS Monotype of being able to trap Pokemon that can threaten Ground-type teams with Arena Trap and 2HKO or possibly OHKO them. This can help turn the game into the Ground-type player’s favor. While this niche is good, I’m not going to pretend Trapinch is a flawless Pokemon. Tapinch has a lot of bad matchups and is very frail, so you can’t directly switch Trapinch in. You must find an opportunity to safely bring it in.

First Impression is the primary reason you would use Trapinch. Being able to trap and eliminate a Pokemon that could 6-0 your team such as Rillaboom, Zarude, Crawdaunt, and Weavile can completly turn the game in your favor. Earthquake is used as STAB and is useful to eliminate Galarian Slowking so Nidoking can spam its attacks more easily. Superpower provides coverage against Pokemon like Ferrothorn, as well as threatening Aegislash’s teammates, as Aegislash can’t be trapped. Crunch is for Pokemon weak to Dark-type moves. 84 Speed EVs lets you outspeed Torkoal. The rest of the EVs are used in HP and Special Defense to give Trapinch some sort of bulk.

TL;DRTrapinch’s niche is trapping threats and softening or OHKOing them. Even though Trapinch is an LC Pokemon and isn’t going to be used on most Ground-type teams, it still has a niche in SS Monotype, albeit a small one.

Gen 9 NU Choice ScarfFlygon @ Choice ScarfAbility: LevitateTera Type: Fairy / GroundEVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 SpeJolly Nature- Earthquake- Outrage / Dragon Claw- U-turn- Tera Blast / Dragon Claw / Stealth Rock

Flygon finds itself in NU once again, and just like Gen 8 NU and RU when it rose up to RU, it is a versatile Pokemon. However, Flygon lost Defog, Roost, and Toxic, meaning utility Flygon won’t be good. However, Flygon can use offensive sets, such as a Choice Scarf set, so here is one it can use for Gen 9 NU.

Earthquake is Flygon’s Ground STAB and safest move to use to clean through weakened teams, as it doesn’t have any drawbacks to using it. Outrage is a powerful Dragon STAB, though being forced to stay in for 2-3 turns can be bad if there’s a Fairy-type on the team. Dragon Claw can be used for the Dragon STAB since it doesn’t have drawbacks. Yes, its power is lower, but this set should be used to revenge kill threats or clean up through weakened teams. U-turn allows Flygon to switch out and generate or keep up momentum for its team. The last slot on Choice Scarf Flygon is honestly a filler move. Tera Blast Fairy is nice to stunt on opposing Flygon that hasn’t used its Tera. Dragon Claw can be used in the 4th slot if Outrage is in the 2nd slot. Stealth Rock, while weird on a Choice Scarf set, is useful for role compression, and you should use Stealth Rock if Flygon forces a switch. Tera Ground is used to boost the power of Earthquake and should be used if you’re not using Tera Blast.

Gen 9 NU Dragon Dance + Loaded Dice Scale ShotFlygon @ Loaded DiceAbility: LevitateTera Type: FireEVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 SpeAdamant Nature- Dragon Dance- Earthquake- Scale Shot- Fire Punch

A Dragon Dance set Flygon can use in Gen 9 NU. Dragon Dance allows Flygon to boost its offensive power and speed to make it a scary breaker/cleaner. Earthquake is a powerful Ground STAB that Flygon can spam as long as there aren’t any resists or immunities to it. Scale Shot with Loaded Dice allows it to hit 4-5 times, making it more powerful than Dragon Claw and Outrage should Scale Shot hit 5 times. Scale Shot also boosts Flygon’s speed as well. Since Flygon can boost its speed with both Dragon Dance and Scale Shot, it can afford to go with an Adamant Nature to give Flygon more offensive power. Fire Punch is used to hit Pokemon such as Levitate Bronzong and Tera Steel Flygon super effectively. Tera Fire is used to make Fire Punch a STAB move to give it more power, making it useful against Pokemon such as Tsareena and Brute Bonnet.

In addition to offensive purposes, Tera Fire has some cool defensive purposes. Flygon’s 4x Ice weakness is a resist with Tera Fire, which is useful against Triple Axel Tsareena and other Ice moves. Flygon’s Fairy weakness becomes a resist, letting Flygon potentially setupin front of Fairy-types such as Sylveon and Florges. Tera Fire also means Flygon can’t get burned, which is nice for a Dragon Dance set.

Gen 9 NU Offensive Stealth RockFlygon @ Soft Sand / Insect PlateAbility: LevitateTera Type: BugEVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 SpeJolly Nature- Stealth Rock- Earthquake- First Impression- U-turn

An Offensive Stealth Rock set Flygon can use in Gen 9 NU. The things that Flygon has over Krookodile as an Offensive Stealth Rocker is access to priority and ability to pivot. Stealth Rock is used to lay down a hazard to chip opposing Pokemon switching in. Earthquake is used for Flygon’s STAB move since it is consistent and powerful. First Impression gives Flygon a powerful priority move that allows Flygon to revenge kill faster Pokemon should they be in range of First Impression. U-turn allows Flygon to switch out and bring in a teammate, which is useful to bring in a wallbreaker that can threaten the opposing Pokemon that’s out on the field. Soft Sand is used to give Earthquake a boost without it taking Life Orb chip or being locked into it. Insect Plate can be used instead to boost the power of First Impression and U-turn. Tera Bug is used to boost First Impression and U-turn, and Tera Bug + First Impression on this set can potentially make people think this Flygon set is banded, which is nice if you like bluffing sets since Choice Band Flygon is what uses First Impression and Tera Bug.

Triple battleFlygon (M) @ Muscle BandAbility: LevitateEVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpeJolly Nature- Dig- Fly- Outrage- Rock Slide

Fly gets that unpredictability, and Flygon’s Ground typing protects it from thunder. Dig gets the same, just that levitate protects Flygon from Earthquake. Outrage gets STAB, and Rock Slide is for coverage.

Watch your toes!

Trapinch @ Eviolite / Choice Band / Life OrbAbility: Arena Trap / Sheer ForceEVs: 252 Atk / 128 Def / 128 SpDAdamant Nature-Earthquake-Crunch-Rock-slide-Superpower/Quick-Attack

You can use Eviolite or Choice-band if you choose Arena Trap, but if you want Sheer force you should try Life-orb.Earthquakeis powerfulSTAB.Crunchiscoverageand gets Sheer force boost.Rock-slideiscoverageand gets Sheer-force boost.Super-poweris for powerfulcoverage, but you could also useQuick Attackforpriority.

With a low move pool, and mediocre stats, flygon may be a tough Pokemon to use. However, being one of my favorite Pokemon, I use this set, which covers all of its weaknesses:

Flygon @ Persim Berry / Choice Scarf / Choice BandAbility: LevitateEVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpeJolly Nature- Earthquake- U-turn- Outrage / Dragon Claw / Dragon Rush- Iron Tail / Steel Wing

EARTHQUAKE: stab + awesome power

U-TURN: Scouting and switch out

OUTRAGE/DRAGON CLAW/DRAGON RUSH: stab, choose if you prefer accuracy, power, or not being stuck in an outrage

IRON TAIL/STEEL WING: I’m surprised that no one else chose to have a steel move: It provides coverage to both ice and fairy weaknesses.
