Goodra @ Assault Vest / Life OrbAbility: Sap SipperEVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpDAdamant Nature- Earthquake- Outrage- Power Whip- Rock Slide / Aqua Tail
With some prediction and abuse from grass, things can work physically. I’ll just leave some calculations.
Calcs:
EQuake:
Outrage:
Rock Slide:
Power Whip:
Aqua Tail:
Counters:
Goodra @ Choice Specs / Expert BeltAbility: Sap SipperEVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpDModest Nature- Thunderbolt- Flamethrower- Dragon Pulse / Sludge Wave- Ice Beam
Goodra has a really good coverage movepool but shame about its base 80 speed. Still, it has some nice defences, and I think in the lower tiers it can really shine as a bulky sweeper. Gotta watch out for Jynx though.
Specs for the power, or Expert Belt for the illusion of being choiced. I think Goodra can actually do without STAB Dragon Pulse, because Sludge Wave and Ice Beam will give much better coverage. BoltBeam will cover most things, and Sludge Wave will cover Fairy weakness. Flamethrower for bonus coverage!
Personally, I think if Goodra was in the higher tiers (so UU+), it would be worth scarfing, but if its base tier is UU, Weavile will be its main threat and STAB priority Ice Shard will really hurt. Base 80 speed is mediocre, and that’s what makes it horrible. Not able to outspeed most threats but not able to abuse Trick Room.
Goodra @ Assault VestAbility: GooeyEVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpDModest Nature- Draco Meteor / Dragon Pulse- Fire Blast- Thunderbolt- Sludge Wave
Assualt Vest Goodra is seriously a beast. Being able to have that much special defense without investment is crazy and gives you more EVs to put into special attack to hit harder. Draco Meteor for a powerful STAB, o Dragon Pulse for a more consistent one. Fire Blast hits Steel types and just get good all-around coverage. Thunderbolt hits bulky waters hard, as well as Togekiss and Azumarill. Sludge Wave hits annoying Fairies switching in to you.
Goodra @ Leftovers (for rain teams)Ability: HydrationEVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpDModest Nature- Dragon Pulse- Muddy Water- Thunder / Sludge Wave- Rest
Dragon Pulse (STAB, power)Muddy Water (boost in rain, chance for accuracy lowering)Thunder (perfect accuracy in rain)/ Sludge Wave (Cover Fairy-types, etc.)Rest (recovery, HYDRATION!)
Goodra @ Assault Vest / Wide LensAbility:Sap SipperEVs:252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpDAdamant Nature- Outrage- Earthquake- Power Whip- Iron Tail / Poison Tail
I’m surprised I didn’t see a physical set. Well, not really. Its physical movepool is considerably worse than its special counterpart; although it’s Attack stat is quite usable. The idea is to switch into a Grass-type move and start tank-sweeping.
Outrageis its strong Dragon-type STAB, just… watch out for those pesky Steel- and Fairy-types. It unfortunately doesn’t have the Dragon Claw option, although that makes sense (mushy Dragon Claw, kawaii! ^w^)Earthquakeis mandatory, being Goodra’s most reliable powerful physical move, covering Steel-types if you’re predicting that switch-in.Power Whipis there because… because it’s strong? Ok, now we see the limits of Goodra’s movepool on this side of the attacking spectrum… But still, Power Whip is a very nice option, covering Water- and Ground-types better than Earthquake. The last move that I would recommend isIron Tail. It covers your Fairy- and Ice-type weaknesses, but has shaky accuracy at best.Poison Tailis really only if you hate the low accuracy and want to be sadistic to the Fairy-types with your critically poisonous tail, but it’s not really a good idea because the power is severely lacking ._.
TheWide Lensis only mentioned here because you have two low accuracy moves with the Whip n' Tail, but if you want to tank those special hits, theAssault Vestis your new best friend.
The Nature and EVs are tohelp boost your slightly lesser Attack stat by any means possible, whilst the HP EVs help with your tanking.
Please keep in mind this is a surprise set designed to take care of what usually tanks Goodra’s usual sets, i.e. Chansey / Blissey, other Goodras, Sylveon… and Mega Gardevoir?Oh, and, you’re walled by Skarmory, Ferrothorn, Scizor, Forretress… but I’m assuming Goodra is going to be UU, so it should be fine, although if youreallywanted, you could run Aqua Tail instead of Power Whip.
Goodra @ Choice ScarfAbility: Sap SipperEVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 SpeTimid Nature- Thunderbolt- Ice Beam- Fire Blast- Dragon Pulse / Draco Meteor (guessing it’s gonna learn it)
If this is gonna be in lower tiers, then a special attacking dragon type isn’t that common. BoltBeam coverage is great, and Dragon STAB and Fire just make it better. There is little that will resist.
Role: Tank / Status Absorber
Goodra @ LeftoversAbility: HydrationEVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpDCalm / Gentle Nature- Rain Dance- Rest- Dragon Tail / Dragon Pulse- Sludge Bomb
This set is simple, much like Vaporeon.Rain Danceis there because just depending on Politoed is risky (as weather are now nerfed), start the rain yourself is better.Restis obvious. Absorb Status, tank special hits, blabla.Dragon Tailis to prevent opponent from setting up against Goodra. It can also serve as a shuffler if you have laid down layers of spikes or SR.Dragon Pulseis another option there for a strong STAB. Lastly,Sludge Bombis to have coverage over the nasty Fairies.
You Like Dis' Tail?
Physical Goodra
Goodra @ Assault Vest / Leftovers / Expert BeltAbility: Sap SipperEVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Defor4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 DefRelaxed / Sassy / Adamant Nature- Dragon Tail- Aqua Tail- Iron Tail- Power Whip / Poison Tail
Dragon Tail is a nice STAB and forces out everything but those irritating Fairy-types… And that’s where Iron tail or Poison Tail come in, allowing Goodra to obliterate most Fairies (except Mawile or Klefki) and keep going. Power Whip and Aqua Tail are preferred however, for their coverage possibilities. Use Adamant as its nature for sheer power, or use Sassy or Relaxed natures for more defensive options. Playing carefully and defeating other big threats like a Garchomp on an enemies team can ensure Goodra’s easy coming sweep, even without a Sap Sipper boost, so play smart and bring a Mamoswine.
So, with this said, its not hard to see why Goodra made it to OU, its bulk and variety make it powerful and more than noticeable, even in a tier filled with more monsterous looking Pokemon like Kyurem-B, Garchomp, Bisharp, and Excadrill, and with a bit of using the pinkish matter locked up in your head, you will find the adorable pinkish slime dragon to be more than just a mere threat to your enemies.
Welp this is the most annoying set I have ever seen
Goodra @ LeftoversAbility: Sap SipperEVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpDCareful Nature- Curse- Rest- Sleep Talk / Poison Tail / Iron Tail- Dragon Tail
Oh my god this thing can tank hits all day and prevent sweeps.I think skarmory is going to be replaced by this slime dragon
Physical Attacker and Tank Goodra
Goodra @ LeftoversAbility: HydrationEVs: 252 Atk / 128 Def / 128 SpDBrave Nature- Outrage- Rain Dance- Rest- Iron Tail
Goodra is a powerhouse when worked effectively. Keeps gaining HP and covers all of its weaknesses. This is a very competitive moveset. Great attacking tank. Or, if you want a special attacker/tank moveset here is one. (Only use this in a rain team)
Goodra @ LeftoversAbility: HydrationEVs: 128 Def / 252 SpA / 128 SpDQuiet Nature- Dragon Pulse- Rest- Flamethrower- Sludge Wave
Dragon Pulse: Power, PP, STAB and covers dragon weaknessRest: Gives HP and healed with rainFlamethrower: Covers ice weaknessSludge Wave: Covers fairy weakness
Either is very effective, but I would go with the physical attacker, so I wouldn’t need a rain team to do it.But…There is one more. The substitute moveset.
Goodra @ LeftoversAbility: HydrationEVs: 128 Def / 252 SpA / 128 SpDQuiet Nature- Dragon Pulse / Outrage- Rest- Substitute- Rain Dance / Iron Tail
You can be out of the way from attacks and keep gaining hp. I love it. As you can see, Goodra is a beast when used properly and can’t be beaten if used perfectly. (P.S. Sorry for long answer)
Someone else came up with this set, but I’d thought I post it here since it seems fun to try out.Gen 8 NUGoodra @ LeftoversAbility: Sap SipperEVs: 252 HP / 72 SpD / 184 SpeCalm NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Substitute- Acid Armor- Body Press- Dragon Pulse
Sap Sipper is so you can saftley switch into to grass type moves. Sub up, then use Acid Armor to boost your defense. Body Press hits hard after using Acid Armor. Dragon Pulse is STAB. This set would best fit in on bulkier builds. 184 Speed EVs outspeed Max Speed Adamant Tyrantrum. 252 EVs goes into HP, and the remaining EVs goes to Special Defense.
Goodra @ Lum Berry / LeftoversAbility: Sap Sipper / HydrationEVs: 252 HP / 126 Def / 130 SpARelaxed NatureIVs: 0 Spe- Curse- Dragon Pulse- Sludge Bomb / Flamethrower / Ice Beam / Thunderbolt- Body Press / Rest
Curse may seem like a waste, not using the +Atk, but it is made up by boosting defense for body press and lowering speed for trick room.
Sap Sipper goes with Lum BerryHydration goes with Leftovers
Goodra @ Damp RockAbility: HydrationEVs: 252 HP / 128 SpA / 128 SpDQuiet Nature- Rain Dance- Dragon Pulse- Muddy Water- Toxic
Rain Dancewill last for eight turns since Goodra is holding the Damp Rock.Dragon Pulseshould do better damage since Goodra is a Dragon-type.Muddy Waterwill do greater damage when it rains.Toxicwill make the foe’s Pokemon poisoned and it will be easier to take it down.
Goodra @ Damp RockAbility: HydrationEVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpAModest Nature- Rain Dance- Rest- Dragon Pulse- Muddy Water / Surf / Thunder (All are good under the rain)
Damp Rock will help with keeping the rains up. With Hydration, Rain and Rest, Goodra gets a free 100% recovery without much drawback. & Since it goes with a bulky build, it will be the perfect tank with super high defense, HP and Sp. Def. It does not have a 4x weakness to anything so taking it out in 1-hit will be very difficult. Since it is a bulky tank, it needs no speed. Just try to get the Rain Dance off as soon as possible and Rest whenever HP is low & you’ll be just fine.
Goodra @ Assault VestAbility: Sap SipperEV: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 SpDGentle / Sassy Nature- Sludge Wave- Thunderbolt / Thunder- Dragon Pulse / Outrage / Draco Meteor- Flamethrower
Assault Vest, if you don’t know already, increases the holder’s Special Defense but only allows the Pokemon to use damaging moves. This is fine for Goodra, considering that it’s a dragon type. The nature depends on youe playstyle. I prefer Sassy because you don’t need speed when you are a tank anyway. Sludge Wave is critical for taking care of those pesky Fairy Types. While Thunderbolt is preferred, Thunder is an option because this Goodra can be used in double battles. Sap Sipper allows Goodra to heal from Grass Type moves and Thunder always hits in Rain. Have your Goodra’s double battle partner be a Ludicolo. Have Ludicolo use Rain Dance holding a Damp Rock and use Giga Drain on Goodra. Then the two of you will be infinantly restoring and Goodra can use Thunder to send all of your opponents to hell! However, for single battles I suggest Thunderbolt. You can choose either Dragon Pulse/Outrage/Draco Meteor depending on your style. I personally like Dragon Pulse because it’s more reliable but feel free to put whatever dragon move you want in this slot. Finnaly have Flamethrower on hand to get rid of the Ice and Grass types.
There still isn’t a very good physical moveset for this guy, so here is mine.
Goodra @ Shell BellAbility: Sap SipperEVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 DefAdamant / Impish Nature- Aqua Tail- Power Whip- Body Slam- Dragon Tail
Ferrothorn is the ONLY Pokemon that resists all of your moves, but you can easily phase it out with dragon tail. The idea is to try and get an attack boost with sap sipper. Shell bell will provide consistent healing and leaves lefties for a more defensive Pokemon that can make better use of it (at least, that’s my opinion). Body slam has excellent synergy with dragon tail, allowing you to spread paralysis on your opponent’s team and rack up entry hazard damage. Fairy types that try to switch in, such as azumarill, will be hit hard by body slam, aqua tail, or power whip, depending on their respective typing.
Venus Fly Trap ( Goodra )@ Expert Belt / Life OrbAbility: Sap SipperEVs: 252 HP / 144 SpA / 112 SpeModest Nature- Infestation- Thunderbolt- Ice Beam- Flamethrower
The main idea of this set is to trap special set up user / entry hazard user / staller like Jirachi / Ferrothorn / Mandibuzz.
Infestationis the core move of this set, when used at the correct time, it acts like a partial Shadow Tag/ Arena Trap. For example, you can switch in at predicted Spore / Leech Seed, the foe will either switch or stay, for either case, just use infestation. If the foe switch into something dangerous, you can switch out anyway. However, if the foe chooses to switch in wall, he or she will be surprised that the wall is now trapped, and you can now safely decide which moves can KO it.
Thunderbolt/Ice Beam/Flamethrowertogether has very good coverage. The reason whyFlamethroweris choose over STAB Dragon move like Dragon Pulse because Dragon move is unreliable as Steel and Fairy walls it. In addition, there are so many Steel types roaming in OU this gen, like Scizor and Lucario. You can deal better damage this way.
Here are the sets for all of Goodra’s abilities:Hydration:
Slime Crime (Goodra) @ Damp RockAbility: HydrationEVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 SpDModest Nature- Rain Dance- Dragon Pulse- Thunderbolt- Flamethrower
(Raindance to trigger ability, Dragon Pulse for stab, thunderbolt for destroying flying and water types, flamethrower to cover ice weakness)
Sap Sipper:
Taffy (Goodra) @ Assault VestAbility: Sap SipperEVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpDModest Nature- Dragon pulse- Ice beam- Sludge bomb- Flamethrower
(Dragon Pulse for stab, Ice beam for dragon coverage, Sludge bomb for fairy coverage and flamethrower for ice coverage)
Gooey:
GigaGoo (Goodra) @ LeftoversAbility: GooeyEVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpDQuiet Nature- Dragon Pulse- Thunder- Fire Blast- Blizzard
(this is more of a risky accuracy set: dragon pulse for stab, thunder for water and flying type death bringer, fireblast for over 9000 ice coverage and blizzard for the dragon slaying)
Ive actually gone with a physical set for my Goodra and it seems to work pretty well
Goodra @ Leftovers / Sitrus BerryAbility: Sap sipperEVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 6 DefAdamant Nature- Outrage- Earthquake- Counter / Power whip- Curse
Sap Sipper allows a free switch into a grass attack boosting its attack power or you could always use your team mate to attack Goodra with a grass move as you are immune to grass attacks. Curse to boost attack and defense at the cost of speed. Outrage is power but you need to make sure you dispose of all fairy types in the opponent’s team before you start to rampage. Earthquake is coverage and Counter is a hilarious surprise for overconfident physical attackers, or if you want more security go with Power Whip which can cover water but leaves you walled by Ferrothorn and Scizor (sometimes). The EV spread I have chosen is because of Goodra’s already massive special defense and I don’t really see much reason in bumping up that any more so HP is a more suitable choice (and obviously attack is needed for a physical attacker). So far, the only issues I have encountered with this set is Togekiss as it completely walls this set as neither earthquake outrage or counter will hit Togekiss. Otherwise, most other fairy type will get killed by an earthquake or two as their defense isn’t great and goodra can eat up all fairy attacks bar Play rough.
Goodra (F) @ Assault VestAbility: Sap SipperEVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpDCalm Nature- Fire Blast- Thunderbolt- Ice Beam- Draco Meteor
Goodra is the best counter to Ferrothorn in the OU. Sap Sipper, good HP, and Fire Blast. Never have had a problem with Ferrothorn while I have Goodra. Without it, Ferrothorn sucks. The rest of the moves are type coverage for Special sweeping. It also functions as one of the best special walls to ever exist. It can tank nearly any special attack, even ones that are super effective. I’ve seen this set take a Draco Meteor from a Latios and been able to keep going.
The only downside to this set is no healing, but it’s not super necessary when it hardly takes enough damage to need to heal. When it gets too weak, keep it on hand to just take in Grass moves when necessary or hope that it’s fast enough to sweep a couple Pokemon. I like that it’s a wall with some actual offensive usage.
