Guzzlord@ Assault VestAbility: Beast BoostEVs: 112 Atk / 148 SpA /248 SpDQuiet NatureIVs: 0 Spe- Dark Pulse- Draco Meteor- Fire Blast- Heavy Slam
With many coverage options, no reliable recovery and being decently bulky after investment, I feel that Guzzlord can run an Assault Vest set with decent success. Dark Pulse and Draco Meteor are dual STABs that deal good damage, especially after a Beast Boost. Heavy Slam is used to hit Fairies such as Sylveon and Tapu Lele. Fire Blast is mainly for Celesteela and other Steels that can potentially wall Guzzlord otherwise. 112 Atk EVs guarantee the OHKO on Tapu Lele with Heavy Slam after Stealth Rock. 248EVs are put into Special Defence to boost its special bulk and the rest are put into Special Attack to boost the power of its STABs and Fire Blast.
Guzzlord @ LeftoversAbility: Beast BoostEVs: 236 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def / 8 SpA / 4 SpDBrave NatureIVs: 0 Spe- Stockpile- Swallow- Draco Meteor- Gyro Ball
Stockpile boost Def and Sp.Def stats which help it live a little longer, if your running low on HP, you can trade your boosts for some nice recovery using Swallow. Draco Meteor is a one time use (which is why I recommended Brave instead of Quiet) as it has no Sp.Atk raising Moves. Gyro Ball rounds out the set, and with such a low speed stat, you know it’ll do a whole lot of damage, as well as providing coverage for Fairies.
Gen 8 NUGuzzlord @ LeftoversAbility: Beast BoostEVs: 32 Atk / 252 SpA / 40 SpD / 184 SpeLonely Nature- Knock Off- Heavy Slam- Dark Pulse- Draco Meteor
Mixed Guzzlord set. I didn’t create this set, but an Showdown player named Young Lilo did, so credit goes to him.
Knock Off is dark type STAB that removes items from opposing Pokémon. Heavy Slam is for dealing with fairy types like Sylveon, Diancie, and Comfey. Dark Pulse is special dark STAB that can target physically defensive Pokemon like Mudsdale, and can be useful against Iron Press + Body Press Bronzong. Draco Meteor is strong dragon STAB that hits dragon types super effectively. 252 EVs in special attack help to make Guzzlord’s special attacks hit hard. 184 Speed EVs helps you speed base 65 Pokémon while also outspeeding Sylveon and Diancie. 32 Attack EVs along with an attack boosting nature can allow Guzzlord to 2HKO Sylveon and Comfey on the switch after Stealth Rock, and can OHKO Diancie if it’s not physically defensive, as shown in these calcs:
32+ Atk Guzzlord Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Sylveon: 186-220 (47.2 - 55.8%) – guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
32+ Atk Guzzlord Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 232+ Def Comfey: 156-184 (50.9 - 60.1%) – guaranteed 2HKO
32+ Atk Guzzlord Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Diancie: 276-328 (90.7 - 107.8%) – guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
The rest of the EVs are dumped into special defense.
,,and/or other Fighting resists
Sylveon can cure Guzzlord’s status conditions if it gets inflicted by status, and can deal with fighting types, and Guzzlord can deal with poison and steel types. Xatu can bounce back status conditions and can bring in Guzzlord via Teleport. Some other fighting resists you can use are Talonflame, who can threaten most fighting types with a burn, and Garbodor, who also set up Spikes to help put opposing Pokémon in range of Guzzlord’s attacks.
,(Choice Scarf),other fast wallbreakers
Since Guzzlord can tend to struggle against fast wallbreakers that can do super effective damage to it, fast wallbreakers that can damage them is pretty nice to have and can provide speed control.
Guzzlord @ Assault Vest / Normalium ZAbility: Beast BoostEVs: 252 Atk / 128 Def / 128 SpDAdamant Nature- Payback- Heavy Slam- Hammer Arm / Earthquake- Dragon Tail / Stockpile
For Guzzlord, I recommend physicals sets instead of special ones not only due to the higher Attack, but also because it’s physical movepool is stronger and more varied on top of it; There are better Dragons to take advantage of Draco Meteor, and being at -1 Sp. Attack instead of -2 isn’t going to help you out very much, since you’re still better off switching. Payback has 100 BP before STAB if Guzzlord moves last, which is going to happen very often since it’s such a slow Pokemon. If your opponent switches into a fairy-type, Heavy Slam is the move of choice since Guzzlord is also a very heavy Pokemon– It has 120 BP under most conditions, which means it has the same amount of base power as Crunch or Dragon Claw do after STAB (80 x 1.5 from STAB = 120.) That also means if Payback isn’t a good move to attack with, Heavy Slam would fulfill either of those two move’s basic roles, so they’d be somewhat redundant to use. Hammer Arm and Earthquake are both great coverage moves, with the choice between the two depending most on what you want to hit hard. Dragon Tail can be useful for its ability to meddle with your opponent’s switches (Payback doesn’t have full power against switches) or otherwise prevent your opponent from setting up; Guzzlord doesn’t mind the move’s decreased priority, so there isn’t really much to lose. Stockpile on the other hand can be useful since Z-Stockpile fully restores its HP on top of boosting its Defense and Sp. Defense by 50%. If it gets to +3/+3 Def/Sp.Def with full HP, it can be tough to take down.
He hungry.PIZZA!!!Guzzlord @ LeftoversAbility: Beast BoostEVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 DefBrave NatureIVs: 0 Spe• Knock Off• Outrage• Gyro Ball• Earthquake
Knock Off is STAB and gets rid of their item. Outrage is strong STAB. Gyro Ball takes advantage of low speed and can OHKO fairies (granted he doesn’t get OHKOd by one). Earthquake is self-explanatoryHe is best on trick room teams.
Gen 8 PU / NU
Guzzlord @ Choice BandAbility: Beast BoostEVs: (PU) 20 HP / 252 Atk / 236 Spe, (NU) 76 HP / 252 Atk / 180 SpeAdamant Nature
Outrage is very strong STAB. Knock Off is powerful STAB that destroys walls one way or the other by either removing some precious Leftovers or Heavy-Duty Boots or just flat out KOing. With its STAB boost, natural power, Choice Band, and item removing effect, Knock Off has no viable switch-ins outside of some No Item Vileplume sets (but Vileplume is dying out anyway). Heavy Slam gets rid of the Fairies which are immune to Outrage and resistant to Knock Off, and works well considering how heavy Guzzlord is. Heat Crash removes Steel and Ice types and is also a move that works well with Guzzlord’s high weight.
The Speed EVs for PU are used to outspeed 40 Speed Lanturn by 1 Speed pointThe Speed EVs for NU are used to outspeed Vaporeon by 1 Speed point
Gen 8 NUGuzzlord @ LeftoversAbility: Beast BoostEVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 SpeAdamant Nature- Knock Off- Earthquake- Heavy Slam- Protect
This set is the the standard non choiced offensive set. Knock Off is for dark STAB that makes progress in matches by removing items from opposing Pokemon. Earthquake is for coverage that hits Pokemon like Copperajah and poison types like Dragalge, Salazzle, and Drapion super effectively. Heavy Slam targets the two main fairy types in the tier, Diancie and Sylveon. Protect is for scouting and also gives you a free turn of Leftovers recovery.
For the purposes of this answer, BP = Base Power
Guzzlord @ Weakness PolicyAbility: Beast BoostEVs: 58 HP / 252 Atk / 200 SpDAdamant Nature- Dragon Rush- Payback- Iron Tail- Stone Edge
No Speed Evs so that payback will almost all the time move last and have 150 base power. This set covers all of his weaknesses except fighting!
Bulky Staller:
Guzzlord @ LeftoversAbility: Beast BoostEVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpDRelaxed Nature- Stockpile- Subsitute- Double Team- Gyro Ball
Stockpile makes Guzzlord bulkier than it already is, Subsitute allows Guzzlord to set up safely, Double Team boosts Guzzlord’s evasion, stalling out your opponent even more. The final slot is reserved for Gyro Ball. Combined with a relaxed nature and low base speed, Gyro Ball hits very hard.
The EVs given are to maximize Guzzlord’s bulk. Leftovers gives Guzzlord steady recovery. Beast Boost is Guzzlord’s only ability, and can be useful after a KO, making Guzzlord a not only bulky, but strong sweeper. Finally, a relaxed nature allows Guzzlord to have some physical bulk without any EV investment. Not only that, a relaxed nature also raises the power of Gyro Ball.
Counters:
Xerneas: Can OHKO Guzzlord with Moonblast, but does not enjoy switching into a Gyro Ball.
Unaware Pokemon: Can break through Stockpile.
Fairy types: With Guzzlord’s quad weakness to fairy, Guzzlord has a good chance to be OHKOed by almost any strong fairy move. However, like I said with Xerneas, doesen’t like switching into a Gyro Ball.
Let me know if I missed anything.
This set is sure to annoy your opponent!
Guzzlord@ Choice SpecsAbility: Beast BoostEVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpAModest Nature- Draco Meteor- Dark Pulse- Fire Blast- Sludge Bomb
Draco Meteor and Dark Pulse as STAB. Fire Blast for bulky Steel types and Sludge Bomb for Fairy types.
speed guzzlord
Guzzlord @ Choice ScarfAbility: Beast BoostEVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 SpeModest NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Dark Pulse- Draco Meteor- Wring Out- Sludge Wave
speedy guzzlord set, even tho you would still have only 142 sp def and defense, you can almost 1-2 shot stuff when you have max hp with wring out or dark pulse, its possible to easily sweep a team with this, but you would need a galvantula and dark pulse flinches.
Ability: Beast BoostNature: AdamantEVs: Attack and speedItem: LeftoversMoveset:Crunch-STABDragon Claw-STABHeavy Slam-Coverage and it is very heavyStone Edge-Coverage
Gen 8 NUGuzzlord @ Assault VestAbility: Beast BoostEVs: 252 SpA / 116 SpD / 140 SpeModest NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Sludge Bomb / Sludge Wave- Dark Pulse- Flamethrower / Fire Blast- Draco Meteor
Sludge Bomb or Sludge Wave can punish fairy types trying to switch into it. Dark Pulse is STAB. Flamethrower deals with steel types such as Bronzong and Copperajah. Draco Meteor is also STAB. 140 Speed EVs are on this set so it can outspeed Sylveon and 2HKO it if it tries to switch in. 252 EVs are invested in Special Attack. The rest of the EVs are invested in Special Defense.
Here is an interesting Guzzlord set I just came up with:
Guzzlord @ Roseli BerryAbility: Beast BoostShiny: YesEVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 DefBrave NatureIVs: 0 Spe- Gyro Ball- Crunch- Dragon Claw- Hammer Arm
Roseli Berry allows it to live a Moonblast. Gyro Ball takes down Xerneas. Crunch and Dragon Claw are STAB. Hammer Arm counters Ice types and also powers up Gyro Ball.
RestTalk Guzzlord set that I have been wanting to post for a while now. Knock Off is STAB and punishes opposing Pokemon switching in because no Pokemon really enjoys their item being removed. Dragon Tail is STAB that forces opposing Pokemon to switch and punishes Pokemon trying to setup on Guzzlord. Rest is for healing and shrugs off status conditions like poisoning. Sleep Talk allows you to continue removing items or force opposing Pokemon out of the field while you’re asleep. 152 Speed EVs allow you to outspeed base 50s Pokemon. 252 Attack Evs makes Guzzlord’s attacks more dangerous to switch into. The rest of the EVs go to defense.
