Gen V
Mothim (M) @ Focus SashAbility: Tinted LensEVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 SpeModest Nature- Quiver Dance- Air Slash- Bug Buzz- Energy Ball
Quiver Dance is Mothim’s most viable setup option. Air Slash and Bug Buzz are its best STAB moves, while Energy Ball allows it to check Rock types after enough boosts.
Gen 7 (USUM)
Mothim @ Choice ScarfAbility: Tinted LensEVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpeAdamant Nature- Lunge- Aerial Ace- U-turn- Facade
This is a gimmicky set that uses Mothim’s base 94 Attack and modest physical movepool to surprise an opponent. Lunge is its strongest physical STAB and weakens physical opponents, while Aerial Ace is the only Flying move worth mentioning. U-turn gives Mothim pivoting opportunities and Facade allows it to soak up status intended for teammates.
This is probably gimmicky but oh well.Gen 7 ZUMothim (M) @ LeftoversAbility: SwarmEVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpDCareful Nature- Lunge- Toxic / Defog- Roost- U-turn
Lunge is STAB that lowers the opponent’s attack every time it hits. Toxic is to poison Pokémon switching in. Defog can be used instead to clear entry hazards on your side. Roost is for healing. U-Turn is for pivoting.
Mothim @ Choice SpecsAbility: Tinted LensMild NatureEVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe- Bug Buzz- Air Slash- Psychic- Energy Ball
Choice Specs provide more immediate firepower than Quiver Dance, which is helpful if you don’t expect Mothim to stick around long. Bug Buzz and Air Slash are the typical STAB moves, Psychic hits Poison types that otherwise wall this set, and Energy Ball is the best option against Rock types.
