I’ll start this one off.
Saud (Palossand) @ LeftoversAbility: Water CompactionEVs: 156 HP / 100 Def / 252 SpAModest NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Shore Up- Amnesia- Earth Power- Giga Drain
I like the design and idea behind thisnewPokemon, for once. Competitively, it doesn’t have room for a ton of firepower if it’s going to survive, but it does have the ability to slowly wear down opponents and be defensive. Oh, and be careful of Taunt, Roar and Whirlwind!
Anyway, this set isn’t particularly awesome, it just fits my standards.Shore Upis a new healing move that is exclusively Palossand’s. It’s especially effective on Sand teams…maybe doubles would make great use of Palossand, but I have no experience in it. I digress. Shore Up will keep Palossand healthy while it’s in the field, and physical water types such as non-belly drum Azumarill may have trouble taking it out as it has Water Compaction, giving a sharp raise in Defense every time you get hit with Water. Palossand’s viable defense will let you live one hit in the first place, and this is followed by a Shore Up if you’ve predicted correctly. Your opponents will have a real tough time getting through this with a Physical Attacker. So this is whereAmnesiacomes into play. Predict a switch to a special attacker, and you’ve got yet another advantage on them already. I was very surprised to find that the pile of sand could learnGiga Drain, which will help when you’re up against a water type, and it’ll help your healing in general. You all know whyEarth Poweris here.
So, Palossand isn’t a totally great Poke, but if he gets placed somewhat lower in the tiers, this might not be so bad. Maybe we won’t have to go against Azumarill after all!
Palossand @ Weakness PolicyAbility: Water CompactionEVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpABold NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Earth Power- Shadow Ball- Shore Up- Amnesia
This set has worked for me really well. He can take a lot of punishment and dish it out too. I mostly used him on battle spot (doubles or singles) and he pulled his weight almost every match.
These are the builds I go for on my Palossands, yes I have two.
Role :Tanky Sweeper
Palossand@ Leftovers / Big RootAbility :Water CompactionEVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpDCalm Nature- Stockpile- Giga Drain / Shore Up- Sludge Bomb / Shadow Ball- Earth Power
Palossand needs SPDef more than he needs Def. It’s sad that a strong Hydro Pump will wash away our Palossand if we don’t invest any SPDef so I think this is the way to go. Furthermore, Def can be backed up by Water Compaction.
Role:Physical Wall / Dedicated Tank
Palossand@ LeftoversAbility:Water CompactionEVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpDBold Nature- Stockpile- Shore Up- Toxic- Infestation
Palossand (M) @ LeftoversAbility: Water CompactionEVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpABold Nature- Protect- Shore Up- Infestation- Toxic
RANDOM MOVESET I USE SOMETIMES
Palossand @ LeftoversAbility: Water CompactionEVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpACalm NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Earth Power- Shadow Ball- Energy Ball- Shore Up
Earth Power: STABShadow Ball: STABEnergy Ball: CoverageShore Up: Healing
You can probably guess what you do with this set! Use whatever attack is most useful to you, and heal every now and then! If you used this in doubles, I guess you could bring a Tyrantrum or Hippowdon to set up sandstorm! That would help with Shore Up and it would raise your already decent Sp.Def!
I’m relatively new to competitive! So, what do you think of my moveset?
This thing seems to offer a lot for a bulky Pokemon.
Palossand @ LeftoversAbility: Water CompactionEVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA or 252 HP / 126 SpA / 126 SpDModest / Calm Nature- Stockpile- Shore Up- Toxic- Shadow Ball / Earth Power
Sand setter/ all rounded tankPalossand @ Smooth RockAbility: Sand VeilEVs: 252 HP / 16 Def / 240 SpDCalm NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Sandstorm- Shore Up- Scorching Sands / Earth Power / Shadow Ball- Giga Drain / Toxic / Stockpile
Personally, I would choose scorching sand to bolster def. Giga drain+ healing or stall with toxic. Evasion boost with sand veil and greater healing with shore up.
Palossand @ Sitrus BerryAbility: Water CompactionEVs: 252 HP / 60 Def / 196 SpDCalm Nature-Curse- Stockpile- Shore Up- Sand Tomb
How to use this set:First, use Sand tomb and trap opponent, after using it, use curse (Sirtrus berry was for it!) and which makes opponent trapped and also takes curse damage each turn. Luckily, Palossand’s good bulk makes it became such a nice tank. Stockpile was for making Palossand even bulkier and Shore up was for good recovery.Teammates guide:-Mandibuzzwill be a successful teammate, it could taunt opponent for using taunt in Palossand, and also could help Palossand from recciving Nasty Plot Wallbreaker such as Hydreigon.-Chansey and other successful userscould help Palossand from getting statued-If you was playing UU, you may tryGrimmsnarlfor setting dual screens and taunt
Check and Counters:-Flying type with tauntSuch as Mandibuzz will force Palosand to use Struggle seems it will Taunt it and immune to Palossand’s Sand Tomb-Taunt userswill get rid of it, so you need a Pokemon that knows taunt for it
I really likes this set, hope everyone likes it too!
Gen 8 PUPalossand @ Weakness PolicyAbility: Water CompactionEVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 SpeTimid NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Earth Power- Giga Drain- Shadow Ball- Rock Polish
Weakness Policy set. Earth Power is STAB. Giga Drain is for healing and can deal with water types. Shadow Ball is also STAB. Rock Polish is to boost your speed.
Choice SpecsGen 8 NUPalossand @ Choice SpecsAbility: Water CompactionEVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 SpeModest NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Shadow Ball- Earth Power- Giga Drain / Energy Ball- Trick / Sludge Bomb
Choice Specs Palossand that is pretty similar to another set on here. Palossand is a super unexplored / underused Pokemon in the NU meta at the time of writing this. Palossand is mostly a Stealth Rock setter that actually has recovery without relying on wishpass support, meaning Specs Palossand is really niche. While Choice Specs Palossand is really niche, it can be dangerous to switch into if used correctly. Shadow Ball is for ghost STAB. Earth Power is ground STAB that provides really good coverage alongside Shadow Ball. Giga Drain / Energy Ball is for water types like Vaporeon and Quagsire. Giga Drain is for healing, whereas Energy Ball is for more power. Trick is for screwing up defensive Pokemon. Sludge Bomb can be used for dealing super effective damage to Pokemon like Sylveon and can also hit Pokemon like Braviary for nuetral damage.
Pallosand @ Colbur BerryAbility: Water CompactionNature: BoldEv’s: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SpDEnergy BallShore UpEarth PowerStealth Rock
Best Partner in Double Battle:Tyranitar @ Choice BandAbility: Sand StreamStone Edge/Rock SlideSandstormIce PunchFire PunchStone Edge is tyranitar’s powerful STAB move and really hits OU metagame. Sandstorm is for healing my Pallosand by pallosand using shore up if tyranitar’s sand stream turns are over he can set up again, Fire punch and Ice punch is for coverage.Hope I Helped :)
Palossand @ Choice SpecsAbility: Water CompactionEVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 SpDModest NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Earth Power- Shadow Ball- Giga Drain- Flash Cannon
This build has worked for me. Palossand’s special attack is pretty average but with the right setup, it can dish out lots of damage. It can also take hits from stab Hydro Pump and can also take hits from any physical move. I think this is the right way to go.
Gen 9 NU Physically DefensivePalossand @ Rocky HelmetAbility: Water CompactionTera Type: WaterEVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpABold NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Scorching Sands- Hex- Stealth Rock- Shore Up
The standard defensive set, but with different STAB moves. Palossand gets Scorching Sands back, meaning it can threaten physical wallbreakers with a burn. Hex is used over Shadow Ball as the Ghost STAB since it takes advantage of the burn chance Scorching Sands has. Hex is also nice should you have teammates that can inflict status on opposing Pokemon. Stealth Rock lets Palossand setup a hazard to chip opposing Pokemon. Using Stealth Rock on Palossand can allow another teammate such as Chansey to have a free moveslot. Shore Up is used to give Palossand a form of HP recovery. Rocky Helmet lets Palossand chip physical workers that make contact with it, pairing well with Scorching Sands to wear down physical wallbreakers. Tera Water is used to give Palossand a nice defensive typing.
Casa Ghoul (Palossand) @ Absorb BulbAbility: Water CompactionTera Type: GhostEVs: 236 HP / 184 SpA / 88 SpDQuiet NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Shore Up- Stealth Rock- Shadow Ball- Scorching Sands
Ghost Castle the Palossand is a sandy tank with raw power to darken the beaches it calls home. And Shore Up, with boosted healing from Absorb Bulb, ensures it lives forever. When my Palossand enters the field of battle, it starts with Stealth Rock because hazards are fun for me to inflict. Scorching Sands and Shadow Ball are the STAB moves Palossand needs to cause problems in the health department for whoever it fights. The Quiet Nature is useful for keeping Speed lowered for Special Tanks like Palossand. Water Compaction is a spectacular ability that I think is only accessible to Casa Ghoul here. It unfortunately does not remove the Water weakness but it gives a slight use for it. This ability also is better than Sand Veil by far so the decision is easy. But if you want to remove the weakness outright, just terastallize into a Ghost type. Casa Ghoul is made manifest
