This is how real birds do it!!!Role: Wallbreaker
Staraptor (F) @ Choice BandAbility: RecklessEVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpeJolly Nature- Brave Bird- Double-Edge / Return- Close Combat- U-turn
Brave Bird Everything.Double Edge STAB and for Electric-types.Return STAB and for Electric-types.Close Combat for Ice-types, Rock-types, Steel-types and Dark-types.U-turn for Scouting and some coverage.
With the new Sinnoh remakes out, I’m doing ourBorderLine team-staple bird moveset
BDSP OU
Reckless Choice Item Wallbreaker
Staraptor @ Choice Band/ Choice ScarfAbility: RecklessEVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpeAdamant / Jolly Nature- Brave Bird- Close Combat- Double Edge- U-turn / Final Gambit
Brave BirdandDouble Edgeare STAB and get boosted to ridiculous levels of power thanks to RecklessClose Combatis thePERFECTcoverage for a Normal/Flying type (my boyPidgeotis jealous)U-turnis for pivoting andFinal Gambitcan be used on the Scarf set to remove a would-be-check likeRotom-Wash(that is why I put HP EVs instead of Def or SpD)
Staraptor (M) @ Choice ScarfAbility: IntimidateEVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpeAdamant Nature- U-turn- Retaliate- Brave Bird- Pursuit
Revenge Killer. Retaliate gets 210 BP after STAB, along with Maxed attack makes it a particularly good move for a revenge killer. U-Turn is for scouting, and Brave Bird is STAB. Pursuit is for choiced attackers locked into EQ, or a ghost move, and also for ghosts that are immune to retaliate.
Staraptor @ Bright PowderAbility: IntimidateEVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpeJolly Nature- Double Team- Brave Bird- Close Combat- Giga Impact
Since Staraptor’s defensive stats are low, why not just take no damage at all? Use double team a few times to set up (Brightpowder will lower your chances of getting hit before the second double team. Once you’ve raised enough evasiveness, attack! Double Team works well with all three moves listed above. When you’ve taken damage from Brave Bird, lowered defensive stats from Close Combat or recharging from Giga Impact, all these downsides won’t be as bad if you don’t get hit. Just watch out for moves like Aerial Ace or Weather combos.
Staraptor @ Sharp BeakAbility: RecklessEVs: 4 Def / 252 Atk / 252 SpeJolly Nature- Brave Bird- Close Combat- Substitute- Roost
Brave Bird is Sharp Beak boosted whatchu know about it.It’s in addition STAB and Reckless, making it a dangerous threat.Close Combat nicely dispatches Steel and Rock types under normal circumstances, that is as long as there aren’t any random second typings.Substitute neatly avoids stats, and is a nasty surprise for opponents switching to a counter, or something resistant to the move he or she thought you would use, this enables Staraptor to identify its counters, and beat them.Roost heals Staraptor from Substitute recoil and attacks in addition to stealth rock damage, it is however wise to pack a nice spinner like Rapid Spin+Recover Starmie.Sharp beak is chosen to boost the power of Brave Bird while not having any recoil.252 Speed EVs allow Staraptor to outspeed as much as possible with a Jolly nature, and attack is maximized to make it do as much damage as possible while the rest is thrown into def and not HP to minimize stealth rock damage and be able to switch in 4 times without fainting.
Staraptor @ Assualt VestAbility: Intimidate / RecklessEVs: 4 Def / 252 Atk / 252 SpeAdamant / Jolly Nature- Double Edge- Brave Bird- Close Combat- Pursuit / U-turn
This Staraptor can be a wall breaker or a scout. If you want a wall breaker, the Staraptor should have Reckless for its Ability, Pursuit over U-turn, and Adamant Nature over Jolly Nature. If you want a Staraptor to scout your opponent’s team, the Staraptor should have Jolly Nature, U-turn over Pursuit, and Intimidate.
Staraptor is my favorite Pokemon so I definitely have to stop by and share what I do with him and how my Staraptor works, and of course, we are talking OU movesets.I breakdown the stats of the Pokemon with my other answers, this one is no exception. Skip if you want:Staraptor is dubbed as one of the strongest Flying type Pokemon out there, and it’s not without proof- Insane Attack and Great Speed, along with respectable health. As for abilities, Reckless buff recoil moves, and intimidate lowers opponent’s Attack.Team Based:
Star (Staraptor) (M) @ Lum BerryAbility: IntimidateEVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 SpeJolly Nature- Brave Bird- Close Combat- Retaliate- Quick Attack
Self Based:
Staraptor (M) @ Lum BerryAbility: RecklessShiny: YesEVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 SpeJolly Nature- Brave Bird- Close Combat- Double-Edge- Quick AttackYou will notice I put Lum Berry… That’s because Status are chains to Staraptor. You have to get rid of them or it will hold it back. Other than that you also see Team and Self Based… Team Based means it works as a Revenge Killer, as Self Based means 1v1 or Independent Sweeper.Brave Bird: Stab plus great damage, that’s all, and plus Reckless…Close Combat: Counter Ice, Rock and Dark types.Retaliate: Revenge Killing, but works bad when they switch to Steel Types, if not it’s guaranteed to deal insane damage.Double-Edge: Normal type Brave Bird.Quick Attack: Stab plus priority, best when enemy is close to KO.Overall, Staraptor is very good and ranks among the top when it comes to Independent Sweepers, it’s just amazing how strong it can be.
Staraptor @ LeftoversAbility: IntimidateEVs: 6 Def / 252 Atk / 252 SpeJolly Nature- Close Combat- Steel Wing- Agility- Brave Bird
Close Combat | PP: 5 |To take out your two of your weaknesses: Ice, RockSteel Wing | PP: 25 |To take out fairy types (Fairy’s are traditionally weak to cold iron (steel)Agility | PP: 30 |For Speed to outspeed fast PokemonBrave Bird | PP: 15 |To take out Pokemon weak to flying: Grass, Fighting, Bug
This is the set I’m using in my Normal-Monotype-Team.Staraptor (M) @ LeftoversAbility: IntimidateEVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 SpeImpish Nature- Brave Bird- Defog- Roost- U-turnThis one is used to take some Fighting-Type moves for the Normal team, which usually are physical attacks. And the reason why I give it 16 Speed? That one for those 70 base Speed Adamant ones like Bisharp or Breloom. U can somehow replace U-turn with Toxic if you want.
Staraptor for the job of finisher
Staraptor @ Life OrbAbility: RecklessEVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 SpeAdamant Nature- Giga Impact- Quick Attack- Brave Bird- Close Combat/Endeavor
–The point here is sending him last (preferable), or in middle, landing the killing blow. Giga impact is the main move if he is sent out last and the enemy is not resistant against Normal type moves, if the enemy is already with low health, the choice is Quick Attack for the same reason as Giga Impact (Giga Impact for enemy with full or half health, Quick Attack for enemies with low health).
In case you have to enter in middle and not as the last one, you should make the most of Brave Bird, Close Combat/Endeavor, especially in cases where those moves would be more effective. (Endeavor can be very useful if you are facing enemies who are resistant against your offensive moves, especially if Staraptor is sent on middle and somehow manage to inflict heavy damage on you, the next Pokémon or your Quick Attack may be enough to faint your foe after this)
Of course in a situation where a Flying or Fighting move is more effective than a regular STAB from Normal move like Giga Impact, use the most effective move even if you are entering last. For example, if you are facing a Heracross, even if you are entering last, use Brave Bird (Or Quick Attack only if his health is already low).
Staraptor @ Choice BandAbility: RecklessEVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 SpeJolly Nature- Close Combat- Brave Bird- Double-Edge- Thief
Hope I helped! :)
Starly @ Focus SashAbility: Keen EyeLevel: 1Adamant Nature- Endeavor- Quick Attack- Pursuit- U-turnF.E.A.R. starly. Endeavor gets them to 1 hp after sash, and quick attack finishes them off. Fails against ghosts, but you can also kill them with pursuit on switch. U turn cause it doesn’t matter much, so why not switch out if they choose not to attack you?
National Dex Monotype (Normal)Staraptor @ Heavy-Duty BootsAbility: IntimidateEVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpDImpish Nature- Brave Bird- Defog- Roost- U-turn / Toxic / Close Combat
Pretty similar to the other Defog set on here, but has max defense for EVs and Heavy Duty Boots so you won’t be worn down by Stealth Rock. Brave Bird is STAB. Defog clears entry hazards. Roost is for healing. U-Turn is for pivoting. Toxic is an option to poison Pokemon switching in. Close Combat is another option if you want to chip rock and steel types.
Staraptor @ Choice ScarfAbility: IntimidateEVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpeAdamant Nature- U-turn- Close Combat- Double Team- Brave Bird
The reason I chose U-turn if things get dicey (if Staraptor is close to fainting). And I could use Double team for evasion boosts. I chose Close Combat for huge damage and for Brave Bird because I use it as a huge advantage and damage dealing move.
