Physical Sweeper:

Typhlosion @ Expert BeltAbility: BlazeEVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 HPAdamant Nature- Wild Charge- Howl- Flare Blitz- Earthquake

This set is obviously outdone by pretty much any physical sweeper, but I tried this out a few times, and it works wonders. Most people switch into something like Chansey to sponge the expected Fire Blast or Eruption, so this gives you a free shot to use Howl and boost up his Attack. He’s got a pretty shallow special movepool (why the hell can’t he learn Earth Power?) but his physical movepool is pretty nice. You could also use the move Reversal, allowing him to cover even more Pokemon, and work well with the recoil damage you get from Wild Charge and Flare Blitz. Though seldom seen, you could also use a Focus Sash + Covet to make a burglar Typhlosion.

Gen 8 BDSP NUTyphlosion @ Choice SpecsAbility: Flash FireEVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 SpeTimid NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Eruption- Fire Blast / Flamethrower- Focus Blast- Extrasensory

This is the Choice Specs set Typhlosion uses in BDSP NU. Eruption is the main Fire STAB of this set, as it is pretty powerful when you’re at full HP. Fire Blast is used for more power but less accurate, while Flamethrower is for a consistent Fire STAB. The second Fire STAB in this set should be used when Eruption would be weaker than your second Fire STAB. Focus Blast allows you to hit Pokemon who resist Fire-type moves such as Regirock, Rhydon, and Miltank (due to Thick Fat). Extrasensory allows you to hit Poliwrath and Qwilfish for super effective damage. Flash Fire is the ability so you can switch in on a predicted Fire-type move.

Gen 8 BDSP NUTyphlosion @ Expert BeltAbility: Flash FireEVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 SpeHasty Nature- Fire Blast- Earthquake- Focus Blast- Extrasensory

This set is used as a lure to threaten Specially Defensive RestTalk Lanturn with a 2HKO from one of its coverage moves, which is something Choice Specs Typhlosion cannot do. This set also allows you to bluff a Choice Specs set. Fire Blast is Typhlosion’s STAB move on this set.Earthquakeis the move that threatens to 2HKO RestTalk Lanturn. Focus Blast is used to hit Pokemon who resist Fire-type moves such Regirock, Miltank (Thick Fat), and Rhydon for super effective damage. Extrasensory is used to hit Poliwrath for super effective damage as well as being able to OHKO Qwilfish with a damage roll.

Gen 9 NU Choice ScarfTyphlosion @ Choice ScarfAbility: BlazeTera Type: FireEVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 SpeTimid NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Eruption- Flamethrower- Solar Beam- Shadow Ball

Choice Scarf Typhlosion is a really solid pick for a late-game cleaner for Sun teams in Gen 9 NU. Eruption, when at full HP and under sun, is Typhlosion’s powerful STAB move. Flamethrower is used for a Fire STAB that should be used when Typhlosion’s HP is low enough that Flamethrower is more powerful than Eruption. Solar Beam is used to hit Diancie, Basculegion, Inteleon, super effectively. Shadow Ball is used to hit Chandelure super effectively to punish it for trying to switch into Eruption or Flamethrower. Blaze is used over Flash Fire since it allows you to actually do damage to Trace Porygon2. Blaze can also power up Flamethrower should Typhlosion’s HP get low. Tera Fire is used to boost the power of Typhlosion’s Fire moves, mostly Eruption, as Tera Fire Full HP Eruption under sun has some disgusting calcs.

Tera Fire Eruption Calcs:

252 SpA Tera Fire Typhlosion Eruption (150 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Dragalge in Sun: 181-214 (54.1 - 64%) – guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Tera Fire Typhlosion Eruption (150 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Altaria in Sun: 209-246 (59 - 69.4%) – guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Tera Fire Typhlosion Eruption (150 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Umbreon in Sun: 260-308 (65.9 - 78.1%) – guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

I must admit, this definitely is not the best moveset for Typhlosion, but my big brother who hasn’t played Pokemon since Gold and Silver was messing around on my computer today, and he found Pokemon Online. He made EVs and a moveset, which was fun to watch, and then I put in the item for him. So in fewer words, this set actually has a little bit of sentimental value :]

Typhlosion (M) @ Life OrbAbility: BlazeEVs: 132 HP / 84 Atk / 56 Def / 160 SpA / 20 SpD / 56 SpeLonely Nature- Overheat- Earthquake- Thunder Punch- Extrasensory

Typhlosion (M) @ Life OrbAbility: BlazeEVs: 226 Atk / 30 SpA / 252 SpeNaive Nature- Extrasensory- Earthquake- Hidden Power [Water]- Thunder Punch

A Mixed set for the Rain.

Extrasensory gives great coverage for this monster. Thunder Punch gives some physical coverage and takes out some threatening water types. HP Water gets a boost in the rain, and can do a good bit of damage. Earthquake is amazing coverage great for anything with a reasonable Attack stat.

I don’t think anyone has posted this one yet….

Typhlosion @ Power HerbAbility: BlazeEVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 HPTimid Nature- Flamethrower / Fire Blast- Solar Beam- Hidden Power [Ice]- Extrasensory / Covet

Flamethrower/Fire Blast— STAB, accuracy or power your choiceSolar Beam– coverage, operates with the Power HerbHidden Power [Ice]– more coverage! =DExtrasensory/Covet– coverage or getting whatever item your opponent has after you lose yours. I personally prefer having that extra coverage here, but support is always nice.

Double/Triple battle

Typhlosion (M) @ Choice ScarfAbility: Flash FireEVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 SpeModest Nature- Eruption- Extrasensory- Solar Beam- Hidden Power [Rock]

Well, here is my double/triple battle set, posted after recovering from the seizure induced by J98’s Typhlosion.

Do yourself a favor and use this guy in the Sun with Lava Plume team support. Everything besides Eruption (which kills everything in the universe) is coverage.

Typhlosion (M) @ Passho Berry / Wide LensAbility: Flash FireEVs: 252 Spe / 252 SpA / 4 HPHasty Nature- Eruption- Focus Blast- Sunny Day- Solar Beam

Typhlosion is better with a Special moveset than a physical move like Brick Break, so if you used a Wide Lens, it would help with Focus Blast’s bad Accuracy.

This is my own personal moveset for my favorite fire starter:

Typhlosion @ Power Herb / Life OrbAbility: BlazeEVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spd / 4 HPModest Nature- Fire Blast- Solar Beam- Focus Blast / Extrasensory- Eruption / Hidden Power [Ice]

Now I’m sure some of you automatically wrote off this moveset because of the inclusion of Fire Blast over Flamethrower because of the “risk”, but in my personal opinion, if you want to use Typhlosion the way he was meant to be used (as a special attacker), you need to take risks like using Fire Blast or Focus Blast. The thing about Typhlosion is that he doesn’t have the defensive capabilities to use “safe” moves like Flamethrower. My point is Typhlosion is a risky Pokemon to use, but those who risk may come out with a reward. Also for those wondering about the Life Orb suggestion, I only recommend that if you’re pairing Typhlosion with a Pokemon with Drought (i.e. Ninetales/Mega Charizard Y).

Two moveset ideas for anyone to use, one more conventional and the other not so much.

Typhlosion @ Assault VestAbility: Flash FireEVs: 252 SpA / 200 Spe / 58 DefModest Nature- Sunny Day- Solar Beam- Extrasensory- Burn Up / Flamethrower

I chose Burn Up because I find it a good move for a pure Fire type. After it’s used, Typhlosion doesn’t become Normal type, instead effectively not having a type. This can really throw an opponent off. Of course, if you don’t like this idea, feel free to use Flamethrower or something else.

Typhlosion @ LeftoversAbility: Flash FireEVs: 252 SpA / 200 HP / 58 SpeTimid Nature- Eruption- Rest- Sleep Talk- Hidden Power [Grass]

This can really throw an opponent off, as Typhlosion doesn’t often use Rest, but a combination of Rest and holding Leftovers means that Eruption will usually have high power. Hidden Power is for coverage of Typhlosion’s weaknesses, though it could be swapped out if needed.

This a doubles set I came up with.Gen 7 Doubles OUTyphlosion @ Firium ZAbility: BlazeEVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 SpeTimid NatureIVs: 0 Atk- Eruption- Heat Wave- Solarbeam- Sunny Day

You’ll need a Pokemon who can learn Helping Hand and Follow Me alongside this set. First, have the Pokemon that knows Follow Me use Follow Me so you can setup Z-Sunny Day, which boosts your speed and sets up sun. Next, have your teammate use Helping Hand while you spam Eruption, which is STAB, gets a boost from the sun, hits both opponents, and gets a boost from Helping Hand. You do the same thing with Heat Wave if your less than 50% HP. Solarbeam is for coverage if you decide to use that move.

Battling in a explosive rage, this is my Typhlosion setGEN VII

Typhlosion @ Life OrbAbility: BlazeEVs: 252 SpA / 4 Def / 252 SpeModest Nature- Flamethrower- Focus Blast- Extrasensory- Hidden Power [Electric]

This set combines Typhlosion’s best choices forSpecial Attacks(in my opinion), and make an enormous amount of Pokémon weak to it (650 in Gen VII, excluding Meltan and Melmetal).
