Torterra is Paul’s strongest Pokémon and his starter as well. It madeits first appearance in Top-Down Training! where it was used in abattle against Cynthia’s Garchomp. Torterra helped Ash’s Grotle copewith its lack of speed after evolution.

Paul caught Ursaring in Different Strokes for Different Blokes withthe help of his Chimchar. Ursaring was seen several times since, oftenbattling with Chimchar.

Honchkrow’s first official appearance was in Top-Down Training!, as aMurkrow, where Paul used it in battle against Cynthia’s Garchomp. Itevolved off-screen between Riding the Winds of Change! and Lost LeaderStrategy!.

Weavile made its first appearance in Top-Down Training!. It was usedin a battle against Cynthia’s Garchomp. Despite having atype-advantage, Weavile lost easily to Garchomp. It was also revealedin this episode that Paul caught Weavile while journeying throughHoenn, Johto and Kanto. It was not seen again until Riding the Windsof Change! where Paul used it and Electabuzz to capture Gliscor, andagain until Aiding the Enemy, where it was seen training withTorterra. It appeared again in Pedal to the Mettle!, where it was oneof the battlers in Ash and Paul’s full battle. It lost to Ash’sStaraptor, despite the type-advantage. It appeared again in Battling aThaw in Relations! at Reggie’s house, where it, along with Paul’sTorterra, Ursaring and Honchkrow, was unhappy to find out Paul hadlost. Weavile’s known moves are Blizzard, Ice Beam, Ice Shard, SwordsDance and Metal Claw.

Paul chose Magmortar to replace his Chimchar after he released it. Itfirst debuted in Lost Leader Strategy! as a Magmar where it appearedin a flashback. Magmar made its first real appearance in Aiding theEnemy!, sleeping with Paul’s other Pokémon. Magmar’s evolution wasrevealed in Pedal to the Mettle! when Paul chose Magmortar to battleAsh’s Pikachu.

Gliscor first appeared in Riding the Winds of Change! where it hadbecome trapped in a city after being blown there by a violentwindstorm. Gliscor’s attempts at using sonar to navigate out of thecity were blocked by the tall buildings, and only served to attractmore Gligar and the Pokémon soon formed a pack. Seeing as it was apowerful Pokémon, Paul battled Gliscor with his Electabuzz andWeavile, and caught it afterwards. Gliscor appeared again in Chim -Charred! where it was used to battle Ash’s Gligar. It won the battleeasily, crushing Gligar’s neck by using a very strong Guillotine. Itmade a brief appearance in Aiding the Enemy along with Paul’s otherPokémon outside of the Pokémon Center while the Team Rocket trio tookcare of Paul’s Torterra. Gliscor has not been seen since. Gliscor’sknown moves are X-Scissor, Sandstorm, Knock Off, and Guillotine.

Paul’s Hariyama has only appeared in A Pyramiding Rage!. It foughtagainst Brandon’s Regirock, with Paul bringing it out to utilise itstype advantage. It appeared to be very powerful, managing to blockRegirock’s otherwise deadly Stone Edge with its hands and strike withmultiple Arm Thrusts. However, it was caught at close range, stunnedwith Shock Wave and flattened by a strong Focus Punch. Hariyama’sknown moves are Arm Thrust and Force Palm.

Paul’s Nidoking has only appeared in A Pyramiding Rage!. He foughtagainst Brandon’s Registeel. Nidoking also proved to be powerful,surprising even Brandon with his ability to recover so quickly from aFlash Cannon to the face. He hit Registeel directly with all of hisattacks, but the Drill Pokémon didn’t manage to cause much damage tothe Iron Pokémon and was defeated with a powerful Iron Head.Nidoking’s known moves are Earth Power, Double Kick, and Thunderbolt.
