Where will the boost of a Choice Item be in this situation?

1 minute read

Let’s say I have a Volcarona that uses Quiver Dance. Then a Rotom-W Tricks a specs onto me. Will the 50% SAtk boost come from Volcarona’s original SAtk or the +1 SAtk?

Better Explanation: Okay. Let me explain a bit better. If I use Quiver Dance, I get +1 SAtk. If a Choice Specs is tricked onto me, will I get the boost from Choice Specs from the original SAtk? Or will it be from the +1? For example:Let’s say a Pokemon has 100 SAtk. It uses Growth to get to 150. Then, the opponent uses Trick, giving me Specs. Will the Specs boost come from the original SAtk, making it a 200 SAtk? Or will it come from the +1, Making it have a 225 SAtk?

I tested on PO and Volcarona got 829 SpA with Quiver Dancing before getting Specs Tricked, and 829 when getting Specs Tricked after Quiver Dancing, and the original SpA was 369.So in the first case, 369÷2=184.5 (rounded down to 184in Pokémon) +369=553÷2=276.5+553=829.In the second case, the Specs is tricked second, which gives it a 50% boost giving it 553 SpA from Quiver Dance, then that SpA is halved and added together which again gives it 829 when adding the Specs. So it doesn’t make a difference if it’s Tricked first or second. As a side note, just Quiver Dancing twice would give you just 369x2=738.Hopefully this answers your question.

Volcarona would get both boosts. It does not matter which boost would come first they would add up to the same thing. Though I would think the Item boost would come first.
