Why is Crawdaunt in Gen 8 OU?

1 minute read

I know it’s stupid to ask these question, but I realize that Crawduant was pretty frail.Bad Special defense, stat was given to SpA which was bad, Speed sucks, 85 Def was still not good, Dragon dance wont help a lot due to that Magnezone will outspeed it and OHKO it, Same as dragapult.Smogon said it was a successful Wallbreaker, but to my sources, Magnezone, Alolan Marowak was a MUCH more better.

So, as you see, Alolan Marowak could be a better and more successful Wall Breaker, and Crawdaunt also has a bad typing with 5 weakness and only 5 Resistence, which was bad.

So see how bad was it? I couldnt beleive that it was in OU tier

Thanks to its incredible base 120 Attack stat and Adaptability-boosted STAB moves, Crawdaunt performs the role as wallbreaker in the OU metagame.

Swords Dance boosts Crawdaunt’s Attack stat to frightening levels and can provide offensive pressure to offensive and defensive Pokemon alike. Crabhammer is an extremely powerful move that hits weak and neutral targets such as Tyranitar, Clefable, and Mandibuzz very hard. Knock Off can severely cripple opposing Pokemon such as Amoonguss, Tangrowth, and Toxapex by removing their items and hitting them with great damage output. Aqua Jet is a great priority move for Crawdaunt to pick off weakened faster threats such as Zeraora, Dragapult, Hawlucha, Volcarona, Excadrill, and Rotom-H late-game.

So it seems to be a combination of a large Attack stat, Adaptability, a move to boost that Attack even higher, Crabhammer, Knock Off, and a priority STAB move. While better Speed and defenses would be helpful, Crawdaunt can usually get some good damage off without them, which is made easier by Aqua Jet.
