Why won't my Pokewalker connect to the game it's from?

Yeah, ive looked and none of the answers here helped me so far.

Im trying to restart my SoulSilver so I can soft reset shiny hunt the starters. But, the thing is, my shiny staraptor is in my pokewalker and it won’t connect ;0; it’s from this save as I rarely delete my saves and for HGSS I’m always sure to make sure the names on my files are different so I know which pokewalker came from which game. My SS and Pokewalker are paired. Why cant I get my Pokemon back?

Im trying this on the New! 2dsxl, not sure if this accounts to anything

Oh my God I feel so dumb.

So, what happened is, the New! 2DSLX actually has this dumb cover on the cartridge slot, so I had to remove it for the connection to work.

The shell of the ds was in the way, basically.

I got my mon back :3
