Will having a higher Friendship with your Pokemon make them more likely to obey you?

Okay so I traded myself a Level 39 (grew a Level around Bugsy), Gabite in Heart Gold when I had no Badges and it would do absolutely nothing I told it to do. However once I started to walk around with it Gabite seemed to obey me more. I know he wasn’t just obeying me because I had the right Badges. When I was still around Bugsy/Whitney he started doing more moves I told him to do. I’m not sure if he started to obey me because our friendship got higher or if I just got lucky. It only tells you how attached your Pokemon is to you and makes certain Pokemon evolve.

It also affects the evolution of certain Pokémon, the power of Return and Frustration, and the availability of a few in-game items and Ribbons.

Also boosts the power of Return and Frustration. Maximum friendship maxes out Return’s power, while minimum friendship maxes out Frustration’s power.

Raising your happiness does not do anything along the lines of traded Pokemon obeying you. All happiness does on Pokemon is1. Make you feel good2. Evolve some Pokemon3.
